Hey chaps, not sure if this is in the right forum section
smile.gif
. Basically i was wondering what would be a nice full size Mboard 2 gfx slots ddr3 but will hold a quadcore q6600 processor. ive been told by a few shops their isnt one, i dont wanna change me processor as its a reasonably good one but im screaming out for dual cards
sad.gif
, any ideas?? find me a board that dont cost the earth and i will buy you cookies
biggrin.gif
, thx lads

Hi Nathan. You still have some chances of finding a Socket 775 motherboard with more than one PCIE slot. The shops are telling you that because they don't carry any.

What *is* important though is you making the correct choice for your needs. What cards were you thinking of running? (brand name please, IE Nvidia).

Basically there was one chipset on that socket that could run both, but you have about as much chance of finding one of those now as being handcuffed to a ghost. You'll highly probably need to make a choice of either an SLI board (DO NOT GET THE 790i FFS) or a Crossfire board, depending on which GPU manu you decide to go with.

Boards are thin on the ground, but they are still available if you look hard enough
smile.gif

LMK which link up you are thinking of (SLI or Crossfire) and I will go off and so some digging for you
smile.gif

you are a god, as for the handcuffed to a ghost i am a ghost(name of my clan lol), anyway i have a: palit gts250 1gb ddr3 gfx card i want to sli those
biggrin.gif
as their cheap as i have one and they are actually good on games despite peeps sayin its crap i run all me games on full gfx but in major wars gets a bit low on fps . so yeah i will bridge 2 of those

Edit. Ack just saw your post mush. Ignore the Crossfire boards and go with the Asus Striker 2 Extreme from Kikatek. It's a lot of money but hell, it's A LOT of board. I have the AMD DDR2 counterpart (the Crosshair 2 Formula) and it really does kick ass. It also has bios updates about a week old !

Crossfire, Socket 775 DDR3. Expensive, but you may find a used one.

Crossfire, Socket 775 DDR3. Cheaper and may not overclock very well.

Same again, seems to be by far the best of the bunch for your needs with Crossfire.

Please get a second opinion before ordering, Tom and others will know best on chipsets ETC, I'm no expert mate

Time for some SLI then (dual Nvidia cards). Sadly I can only seem to find 790i chipset boards and that may be it, but before you buy go to the manu's sites and check for bios updates. The later the better mate, as this chipset is semi decent *IF* the manu could be assed to code up a new bios. Avoid EVGA as they make one that's chuffed and doesn't work (rev A).

http://www.freshtechsolutions.co.uk/MSI-SKT-775-P7N2-DIAMOND-DDR3-INTEL-MOTHERBOARD-NEW.html

IMO if it has to be SLI and has to be what you want (775 + SLI + DDR3) then this is the one to go for as the bios will be THE best of the bad bunch.

Asus Striker II Extreme. If you look hard enough there is a bios out there (HP blackbird) that allows you to select both Crossfire and SLI lmao).

It's refurb but it's half of what it cost new. Kikatek are decent I have bought a good few bits from them (monitors SSDs etc).

Diablo can really fill you in on that board as I am sure he has one
smile.gif

Tri-SLI 3xPCI-Ex x16
ohmy.gif
does than mean i can bridge 3
biggrin.gif
, mind u as nice as my power back is doubt i could run 3 lol

It does
biggrin.gif

However, bear in mind something... It may not come with the bridges..

It says no accessories, this could mean no bridges and no LCD poster. However the LCD poster is crap. It's fun for about three boots then it gets old quick.

The bridges should come from Ebay, or, I may be able to help (mate has a FUBAR EVGA REV A) so I may be able to get him to part with the bridges. Same slot layout too IIRC as TRI SLI is a hard bridge. Yes you can TRI SLI in that board, also, I was going to do just that. I had a 280 GTX and had it sold and was just about to order three 250s when the 280 went pop. I never got around to it, but I know that the benchmarks would have been extreme.

The 250 is a fantastic choice for SLI as it scales VERY well. I hope some one advises soon as Kikatek only has two left at that price and everywhere else they're stupid like £250+. You should be able to pick up 250s for peanuts now. I mean, in January VCS had them for £75 a go refurb, 1gb models. They had the nice shroud coolers too.

BTW. Asus are a good company. I'm sure if you got onto them and nagged a bit they would send out the bridges? I know EVGA actually sell them.

EDIT. Make sure to measure to get this right as some bridges are 'hard' (solid fibreglass) but they are peanuts now. Example

DING DING DING ! JACKPOT !

And this too. Just checked bios releases. Last was in Feb 2010. I'm certain that if it needed another one they would do it though, unlike poopants Sapphire.

scrotie thx vey much mate this help im am very grateful for. question i have the Next 650 sexy psu that come with this sexy new case i wont from oc3d will it run 3xgts250's

It may well do mate. It's not all about the total wattage (as much as people want to think that
rolleyes.gif
) it's about the rail AMPS.

Try using something like outervision to calc what you need. If the 250 isnt listed simply use the 9800GTX+ as that's what it is
biggrin.gif
Just don't try SLIing with a 9800GTX+ and a 250 as that won't work..

I would reccomend the asus striker II extreme too, my brother uses it and he has never had anyone problems with it and I had the origional striker extreme and did its job of oc my q6600. Just had a look around kikatek does seem to be the only place that stocks it and they are refurbished ones, could always try ebay as well. with it being refurbished you probably will not get any accessories/manuals with it,as when i bought my striker extreme that was refurbished and i just got the board, only annoying thing with that is you wont get the supreme fx II sound card, so you wont have any on board sound so unless you have a soundcard already would need one of them too

Those sound cards are about £5 on Ebay. There are hundreds of them on there as they're useless without the correct board (some of the sound chip is stored on the mobo so you can't use them elsewhere
smile.gif

TBH Nathan theres a few Asus DDR3 x38/x48 options dude rampage formula is one, Ive got that one here. Theres the original rampage extreme too. Both will carry a hefty premium though
sad.gif

with my striker extreme i just bought another soundcard, though with my rampage II extreme i managed to get double the accessories since the first board i got sent was a dud and only had to send the mobo back and they sent me the whole lot again!

i am sure some one on hear is selling a striker 2 but not sure.

the 9800gtx+ oops cough sorry i mean gts250 is actualy a good card, and when there SLI'd there good, plus there good folders 'hint hint'
smile.gif

EDIT-nope its a x38 so no good to you

When someone said avoid the 790i, they really meant it. The striker II extreme (a 790i ultra board) is the most expensive way to make your life miserable this side of a coke addiction. They are terribly finicky with power hungry CPUs, unstable, will overheat the northbridge, need at least one optional fan on the Mosfets and are in general the most miserable experience of my adult life.

If you want to see the problems, go to the asus forums. If the board is being sold, there is a very good reason for it. If you can put up with freezes, bluescreens (at stock) and worse do it. As with any computer problem, sticking an extra GPU in won't help things stability wise.

You would be far better off buying a cheap i5/i3, board and memory and overclocking it.
