Need help With web pages not loading -- odd

Ok, this is lame but I am stumped and have never encountered this.

I have windows 7, IE 11, and Chrome.

I have an active connection to the Internet via my router. All my wireless devices work. My desktop has a direct connection but cannot load web pages. I know I have an Internet connection because I can download email in Outlook and I can connect to Steam to play my games.

No web pages load on IE 11 or Chrome. But wait! I have no issues loading any page that is HTTPS. I have no clue what is going on. I restarted, shutdown, unplugged the modem, reset the router,etc...

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi!

Are you by any chance using a proxy server?

Things to try.

right click on the network connection, scrolled down to TCP/IP, click on the label to highlight it, click on properties, click on obtain IP address automatically.

Also you could clear your DNS by running CMD prompt and typing "ipconfig /flushdns" press enter.

No dice. Tried flushing, tried auto connect, and tried manually setting IP address.

I can still get emails and hit https websites. I know this is likely something simple to fix just can't get my head around it.

I have literally just encountered the same issue with no pages loading, turned my router & fibre modem off for 10 mins, ran ccleaner and flushed the DNS resolver, switched everything back on and all sorted.

Ok fixed. Last night I had applied Microsoft updates. That jacked it up. I did a restore, but what really needs to be done is to go into inter explorer, Internet options, advanced tab, click on reset.

It appears that when the updates were installing it changed (no clue why) the security settings preventing access to non- secure sites.

Once I clicked reset it works.

Simple fix yet annoying.

Good job figuring it out, at least we know now and so will everyone else.
