Internet Issues

Hey All,

Anyone have any ideas why sometimes when I boot up my PC it takes a while for me to be able to access the internet and im talking 20+ mins.

So I start it, it boots in about 30 seconds but if I open steam, uplay or origin their store pages wont load, if I click chrome sometimes the google page will open but I cant go anywhere else sometimes the google wont even open, I get a page saying connection interrupted or cannot load page as if my internet is unplugged.

This happens at least once a week, I can even boot my PC and all works fine straight away then re boot my pc and it takes ages again. Could it be something to do with my powerline adapter?

Any help appreciated.

I've had this problem before. I solved it by using a different router. What was happening appeared to be that the virgin 'super'hub wasn't assigning it an ip address in time.

And what do you know I have a virgin super hub lol, so did you get a new one from virgin? I gotta add that this only happens on my main PC, it never happens on my laptop or my other computer?

Yeah it only ever seemed to happen to devices that used a wired connection. my house has around 10-12 devices connected wirelessly and one device wired so I think that the vigin media hub isn't designed to handle that many connections smoothly.

What I did was I boughtNetgear Nighthawk R7000 to do everything instead and switched the vm hub into passive/modem mode. It made a huge difference.

Which """super"""hub do you have? I've got this one which I think is an older one.

I didn't bother nagging Virgin media to get a new one but you might be able to get a replacement.

Yeah I have the same hub as that and it is quite old will speak to virgin about it. Both my laptop and PC are connected via Ethernet cable so I dont know what could be causing it.

Could be a DHCP IP conflict, try setting your PC to a static IP. This will rule out a router issue with keeping an IP lease on your PC when it is turned off which can cause issues if the router does not see it as the same device. Most routers should assign an IP through DHCP based on the device MAC address, however I have seen many ISP supplied routers fall on their ass with some configs.

Thats a good idea I think i'll do that anyway but I don't think it is that as it will sometimes let me on to my home page but not let me go anywhere from there :(

All browsers will cache your homepage, so chances are thats what you are seeing. I can disconect from the internet and Chrome will still show me my Google homepage.
