hey guyz

ive overclocked my system a bit, but i still cant seem to get the gr8 performance some of you have......

can you guyz help?

here is my system:

Foxconn 925A01 Mobo

3.6GHz Pentium 4 530 800MHz FSB @ 3.96GHz

2x 512MB DDR2 533MHz Dual Channel Ram

128MB DDR GeForce FX6600GT PCI-E *overclocked* (547mhz/1.10Ghz)

2*Maxtor 200GB S-ATA

3DMark05 Score: 3986

Aquamark3 score: 54252

also i am running Windows XP SP2

and my graphics card driver is: 7.1.8.4

(it actually says my grfx card is a: Winfast PX6600 GT)

Hi Cyber!

What happens when you try to go higher?

Normally if your system becomes unstable through overclocking, you can bump up the vcore (cpu voltage) a little bit, and it will re-stablize your system.

Also, i'm afraid the board you have may be holding you back. Foxconn arn't really known for being great overclockers.

Another thing...What kind of cooling do you have on your processor?

Hey cyber..Wlecome to :anisx:

Listen to this man. He is an Intel OC'ing god!! :worship:

hey guyz

thank you so much for all the replies.

yea, the board is a 3rd party deal, ill upgrade when i have cash (hopefully this summer :))

im doing super pi now.

the computer is not unstable (but i dont want to jack it up any further due to the fact the temp runs at 65C on high load)

the cooler is stock (ill get a zalman or something during the summer)

but other than that, is there any way of increasing my aquamark score?

darn, super pi only works on one thread of my HT processor :(

so it will only use ~2ghz :(

to reduce temps a bit you could use thermal compound instead of the stock thermal goop. that reduced my temps by about 6C

how much voltage ar eu pumping through it (have u increased at all)

what is ur airflow setup?

Well, there really is no substitue for raw power. So the only way to really get your scores up is to either overclock your processor or graphics card higher.

If you've found that you've hit a wall, maybe because of the temperatures (65 is very high - and probably causing your computer to throttle down), then the only real way to fix it, is to get an aftermarket cooler and some good thermal compound (as Dave said above) ;)

Who makes your ram and what IC's does it use? This can be a HUGE factor in getting a good overlock and I havent seen mention of what kind of ram u have other than DDR2 533.

Also, the mobo ur using isnt going to help any... Foxconn's are some shoddy overclocking boards, take a look at the new EPoX Intel boards or some of the new DFI boards, those are going to be your best overclockers!

ok, so it seems ive gotta get me some ballistix memory, a decent mobo, and a decent heatsink (with arctic themal paste)..............does that sound about right?

That sounds like it'd take care of it... Another key component is your power supply, what are you running in that department?

generic most likely but that certainly isnt the top of ur list. upgrade all the things u said and see how u go from there..

meanwhile..

lets at leat get you to 4ghz on ur current setup.

you are at 3.96. what happens when u try and increase FSB atm?? if u loosen your ram timings you should be able to get there now.

ok lets see, power supply im running 500w (http://www.short-media.com/review.php?r=277)

and this motherboard doesnt do it via FSB (at least not manual FSB....i dont think neways, ill check soon)

but basically it says "L1, L2, L3, L4"

if i go for L1, the processor goes to about 3.8-ish

L2, 3.96

L3, 4.something

L4 aint gonna try without a decent HS.

ok now comes the time for recommendation......

im running a Pentium 4 530 which is a LGA775

i need recommendations for mobo, and HS+fan.....

and as im trying to run a more silent system, i need something with a little less noise than your average high speed fans.....(so no volcano 12 for me)

and the ram timings on this mobo are rather shoddy.......

it dont allow me to get to my 2-2-2-5 setup

Hi mate, and welcome to our forum :)

Firstly you want one of these http://www.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_pr....jsp?PRODUCT_ID=3245&CATEGORY_TYPE=LP&SITE=US

and for your cooling, either a thermalright XP-90 or XP-120 imho. Btw don't use the thermal paste supplied with these HS's, get yourself some AS5 :)

thank you very much

one question though, ive heard all about weight on the heatsinks and stuff........is it really true how much they weight? and also the dangers associated with moving the case and the possibility that the cpu bracket might snap?

thats the thing that has always stopped me buying those huge things....

also, on the motherboard, is that a PCI-E board or an AGP board? because i have an PCI-E card that i dont intent to go to waste :)

+ does this mobo allow me to utilise SLI or would this be a better choice for the PCI-E? http://www.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_pr....jsp?PRODUCT_ID=2980&CATEGORY_TYPE=MB&SITE=US

also being kinda dumb on the new DDR2 standard, which RAM should i buy (i am in the UK) and which is best for the lowest amount of money? corsair? ballistix? DFI ram?

sorry im askin all these questions :)

Hi mate

That mobo is actually has an AGP slot, if you want PCI-e then you'll need to go either 915 or 925 chipset. As for SLI the new Intel mobo's with SLI have just started appearing, but they are extremely pricey. Imho, SLI is AMD's domain at the moment because if you wanna game then you want an A64 processor (better gaming CPU).

bottom one on list for motherboard ^^

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Thermalright_120.html

thermalright xp-90 ^^ (xp-90c if you can afford it, it is worth it)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/cgi-b...terials_27.html#aAC_2d000_2dAC#aAC_2d000_2dAC

top on list ^^

http://www.sysxtreme.com/showthread.php?t=1362

keep check this list for when XMS adds the DDR2 memory and you will get a bargain on OCZ ram. this isnt to be missed, deals only available on :anisx:
