Need Some Overclocking Help .....

hello guys

well i started my journy now and hoping i can contribute my help with the OC3D Family

anyhow !

these are computer specs and i hope i can overclock but for now im realy not in the need of any water cooling due to studying and lack of money

so can i overclock the following without getting my computer to heat up that much and plus if u guys could throw the steps for the overclocking that will be awesome !! as from bios options i already know my way there just tell me from where i only need the steps for the software

CPU : 3.0Ghz (Supports Hyper-Threading lol)

Rams : 1Gb (533Mhz) Dual Channel (512 x2) - Kingston

Vga : Ati x1600 (256 DDR3)

Motherboard : 945PL Neo

Sound Card : Built In !!!!!

here are my options in the Cell_Menu :

Adjust DDR [1.80] Default Settings

Adjust NB Voltage [1.55] Default Settings

Adjust Cpu Fsb Frequency [200] Safe Settings

Cpu Dynamic Overclocking [Disabled]

Auto Detect Pci Clock [Disabled]

Adjust Pci Frequency [33.3]

so just tell me what needs to be changed and also staying on the saf side as well

Overclocking is done through the bios by adjusting the fsb (front side bus) of the cpu, along with increasing voltages to key components (cpu vcore and commonly the nb - north bridge). Often you need to set your ram divider too to stop your ram getting too far overclocked.

Can you see any options in the bios to change fsb and voltages?

As for a cooler, a cheap but effective air cooler is the arctic 7 freezer pro (~£17).

Key software you will need is coretemp to monitor cpu temperature and prime95 to test for stability.

Also another thing.. If it seems a little much to take in and your reading lots of different views of the same thing with lots of numbers to try and remember all over the place.. Don't worry.. Its surprisingly how quickly you pick everything up and start to get an understanding. As has been said in your welcome thread its defo worth reading all the guides for a basic understanding

As for your settings I can't really help there as when I had similar hardware I never tried to overclock it due to at the time not being 'in the know'. What model is your CPU?

Hopefully someone else will give you a hand soon.

I don't see any 'cpu vcore' options in the list? Without this you will have a very limited overclock.

Simply raise the fsb frequency in increments of 10mhz at a time.

Boot up and using cpu-z you will see your new higher cpu frequency.

Open coretemp and keep an eye on temps, not sure how hot p4's are allowed to go, so lets say 70 deg c for now.

Open prime95 and set it off.

Leave it for 15mins, ensure temps don't go too high or that the programs fails.

Repeat process until system won't boot/prime95 fails.

When you reach that limit you may have to reset the cmos and put backin the last known safe settings.

Our Friend Mr.Smith Came by at first and then i didnt see him ... anyways im sure he will get back soon , and plus i might be able to get new rams and hopefuly a cpu and a vga those couple of days .......
