NAS, File server Type Question for DIY Build

Hello,
I have lingered but I have not participated in any forums. Currently I have a NAS, Filer Server question.
I have only posted a “Hi in a forum so let me apologize now for any mistakes or improper posts.

I currently subscribe to DIRECTV with whole home DVR services. I own a Panasonic BMT-220 Blu-Ray with various Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime subscriptions along with my music collections that consists of somewhere around 750 gb of various music/albums.
I am looking for the best possible solution for my family to have access in any room of the house. Personal Cloud would be nice but I am not up to date on personal cloud information. I am just getting confused from all the reading. I have tried to look for videos or live webcast etc as I have to deal with a very bad case of attention deficit that triggers frustration :banghead: and migraines especially if I cannot locate a solution to my quandary.
What I have found is the it appears the terms of NAS, DLNA, File Server, WHS etc are being interchanged, so a am hoping I can find someone with the expertise and a bit patience to assist me in this forum.
I would prefer a cheap build from leftover parts but if need be I I can possibly talk the spouse into spending a little cash (highly unlikely, might have use my personal stash of fun money)
List of parts available to use:
AMD 955 or 965 Black Edition
12 gb DDR 3
4 gb DDR2
MSI 790FX-GD70 Motherboard
Antec Two Hundred Case
Cosair 800W PS
WD Black 2 x 1tb
2 OCZ Vertex 3 SSD
1 Crucial M225 256gb SSD
MSI 5750 Hawk Video Card
RocketRaid 620 Sata III PCIE

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I have never posted in a forum so let me apologize now for any mistakes or improper posts.
Thanks for your time!!!

What OS have you chosen? My home server uses Server 2008 R2, which I find pretty decent. The specs look fine to me as you don't really need that powerful a system to stream/host files.

I hav not chosen any OS. I Guess my question should have been what exactly are the diferences or benefits of NAS, and or MEDIA server. THe web appears to have alot of FreeNas builds but i am unsure as to why not just use WHS?

I have been watching some Youtube Free NAs Builds. What componenets did you use for your build? Are you using FreeNas 8?

Yes I am using 8 :)

i7 860S
GA-H55M-UD2H
16 GB Corsair Vengeance
HighPoint RocketRaid 2720SGL
8 x 2TB WD Caviar Greens

I find it the ideal solution for a home server. Supports services for OS X, Linux and Windows. The web GUI makes setting things up a piece of piss, with no need to have any peripherals connected to the server.

EDIT: Also, I'm am running a ZFS file system in a RAID Z configuration.
