my first cascade -92

Well I have taken the plunge and started my first cascade after building 4x single stage units now I thought it was about time and as it’s my first it will be as simple as possible

I won’t be going after uber temps with this one but you never no

I have pulled together some old parts I had lol what’s left of my first vapo

And some new stuff that I will be able to use again for the next project

Here are the parts so far:

High stage:

Danfoss NL11f(SC18 if the NL dont cut it) 402a, hx 12 feet of 1/2 copper with a 1/4 pipe in it (that’s the large coil), 1/4 copper pipe for most of runs on this stage, filter dryer with read point, cap tube (still to work out), sight glass, vapo condenser with pre cooling coil

Low side:

Danfoss NL11f co2/402a

Danfoss oil separator or I might have ago at a home made one

Hand valve oil return

High pressure cut off valve

Control unit something along the lines of this unit EWPC-901 I may have something else coming, cap tube length undecided as yet

My choices of gases is based on the fact that I already have the 402a and I can get the co2 cheap. r23 will be In the next one

Loving the frostie temps there baz mate, well done.

The large coil is to offer extra cooling due to condensor size right?

Now abuse that CPU!!

No mav the large coil is the HX. Takes the cold from the 1st stage of the cascade and when you start the 2nd stage it basically runs @ say -40 straight away as aposed to +20. It's basically a super cooled condensor for the 2nd stage to run off.

Baz get that HX and pipework all insulated, you will probably gain a little more cold doing that ;)

Mines coming, when the R23 gets here :(

Lovely work mate, get it on a CPU dammit :D

Looks very nice bazx, don't know anything about it but looks nice and cold mate good work get it on that chip.

this unit was just a learning curve i have some new comps sc18 and a sc21

which will be going into a new rig next week this has been alot of fun

today bit like the ln2 day:D

thanks it takes a bit to get ya head around:)

well that did not take long to test hehe

under load the NL11f comp on the hx (high side) just could not keep up with the low stage

this was was not unexpected tho

but this unit for me has been a great success as i have learned a great deal

and managed to turn a corner

before i take this one to bits im going to pop the danfoss sc18 on the high side

i need to test it any ho and it will give me a chance to compare the units

How did you tune the high stage to take the load of the low?

Something I'm trying to figure out lol. Just been in the garage after seeing this and made my HX, sorted out my condensor and started planning the pipework for the 1st stage.

the hx is 12 feet long and i coiled it around the 402 bottle lol

for the cap tube i used 5 feet of .028

when charging i followed the same method as i did with a normal single stage

30 psi static then toped it up untill the frost was about 1 inch from the comp

around 12 bar 180 ish psi this was with 402a which to be honest is the only gas

i have used except the co2 in the low stage

Very neat clean work especially for your first effort, good luck with the revisions, based on this im sure it will be awesome :)

Looking good mate,

I like it Laid out on that base instead of some of the other methods where they look a mess all on top of each other.
