MSI GTX780 Lightning or Gigabyte GV-N780OC-3GD?

Hi forum,

I'm about to buy a GTX780, but am still in doubt about the cards above. They both have 3 fans for great cooling, but what other differences do they have?

Which would you recommend? I need to wait maybe a week before they start selling the lightning over here

Thanks!

I went with the EVGA SC w/ ACX and i think its a much better looking card. That being said, how much are you really going to OC your GPU, and do you need to? Over clocking is really the only thing i can see that might be better than the EVGA.

What res and how many monitors are you using?

Just one monitor, 1920x1080.

I'm not really going to OC in the beginning as the new cards are supposed to support the newest games. But as the card gets older and the games newer it would be handy to be able to OC.

Really any reference or non-reference design will blow the games out of the water on a single 1080p monitor. That's what i have with my EVGA 780. I had the same idea, but keep looking into a 1440p monitor which wouldn't be a problem either.

I wouldn't spend much more than than a reference card if that's what you're doing. Which is the SAME reason i bought my EVGA SC w/ ACX, i just wanted something to preform a little better and look cooler than a reference card.

Guys, that's far too subjective a question. Tom would probably use a water cooled card. But if he had to choose between them I'd guess it'd come down to whichever one suited the colour scheme of the rig he's planning on putting it in.

Watch the reviews and use the advice he provides to base a decision on your own personal circumstances. There are plenty of reviewers on the web that just say "buy this one cos I would" the reason we like OC3D is because we get long reviews with thoughts and advice that we can apply to our own builds.

With a waterblock on the colour scheme does not come into it.:)

I also think the question is a fair one as the two cards cater for different priorities.

Also an interesting one........Even though some reviews state that the MSI GTX 780 Lightning is a tad faster than the EVGA ACX GTX 780 model, one have to consider the heat factor as well.......

I see the MSI card runs between 8 and 10 degrees hotter under load than the EVGA ACX model for maybe 1 or 2 frames extra? Is it really worthwhile risking 10 degrees hotter for 1 or 2 frames more?????? Everyone also states the middle fan is kinda pointless.

I STILL LIKE THE MSI GTX 780 Lightning THOUGH :)

tbh dude all these new cards are that good at 1080p it really doesnt matter which one you get.

get the one you like the look of the most

A 780 is overkill for 1920x1080, I'd say possibly look at something like a GTX 5/680 if you can find them cheap, failing that, the 770. If you're looking at getting a 780 you should be running atleast 2560x1440 imo.

^^^ he has the money so its no problem for him. Besides no real thing as overkill for GPUs. Can never have enough performance(obviously not counting tri or quad Xfire/SLI for various reasons).

Not saying he shouldn't get one just that he should possibly consider a higher res monitor as that's where the real benefit comes with these cards. I personally run 2560x1600 and definitely that's where these cards stretch their wings. OP, check out that 2560x1440 Asus panel TTL reviewed on YT, they're good value and you'll be amazed at how much cleaner games look at this res.

Hey man, I typed out this earlier. I used it to clarify which 780 comes out ontop. NB I took this info from guru3d
