microsoft surface

Meh, kinda useless imo. Fingers and touchscreens aren't the best combination, and a mouse is much more precise.

It looks ok in that you can put ur zune onto it and drag and drop files, would make a good table for a conference room.

Might end up a bit gimmicky tho.

It looks a lot more solid than the average touch screen aswell.

It would only be useful for small tables because peoples arms are only so long. Also entering in data would be rather slow I would think.

did you miss what it was designed for?

its solely designed for a 'hands on' approach to digital media work as you see in the vids and it does a damn nice job too imo.

fingerprints are nothing on proper touch screens and you wouldnt notice them until its turned off, nothing is more accurate than fingers for that kind of job and you wouldnt need to enter much data for what its designed for really

i wouldnt mind one it would be cool but i am betting they are gonna be hella expensive.

Raging.

I can't seem to find what it is designed for, sometimes it looks like conference type situations at other times it looks like it is supposed to be a piece of furniture.

"A 'hands on' approach to digital media" is a step backwards, the advantage of computers is that you don't end up with a pile of pictures on your table.

I wasn't talking about only fingerprints in relation to the screen. I was more alluding to the lack of tactile feedback and lack of precision due to the large size of a finger.

The way I see it other than moving photos, a significant amount of input is still required.

I am not saying I wouldn't want one but I wouldn't be willing to pay what they will charge or what is probably even reasonable to charge.

Meh, picture the cost they`re likely to be, then peoples who either like to - or have to - show off stuff.

Companies, meetings, people who like to say "look what I blew £800" on (and it wears off in a couple of weeks).

It`s a stepping stone to other tech, so I`m kewl with it, and I think it will get limited sales.

Be a nice wall mounted picture thingy mind u.

I'm sure there's lots of things this could be useful for. I could imagine big companies putting it in their lobby and using interactive advertising. If these big companies can afford to have umpteen flat panels all displaying the same thing, then they can afford this.

Yep, I reckon there`s a pre 5/6 year old education thing in it too.

Bit pricey for education perhaps, but hey it hasn`t stopped them spending my taxes thus far.

nah, really cant see this happening in schools, 95% of them of them are too skint as a result of making bad decisions. (ie. going with rm). well in primary schools anyway.
