Look at this, its the readings im getting in my PC HEALTH status in bios. Notice the "FAIL" next to DDR18V, what in the world is that and is it bad? (Stuff like this is preventing me from starting to overclock, i want to make sure the pc is completely healthy before i screw around with it). Ive ran tools like prime 95 and 3dmark06 and havent had any problems at all. any ideas? thanks

ups

oops, just reallized i hadnt flashed the current bios and all is well. It still sais ddr18v ... weird

Anyways, does anyone have any idea how i get the ram to run at dual channel? or does it need to be special dual channel ram?

it has to be dual channel ram afaik for best results, and you haveto insert them in the correct slots for them to work together, refer to your mobo manual for which slots to use.

Raging.

'Dual-Channel' RAM is just two identical sticks, size and latencies, even using different manufacturers. Companies just put 'Dual-Channel Kit' to make it easier on the consumer, nothing special about the RAM. You could buy two single sticks from say OCZ that are identical and run them dual channel, or one from Kingston and the other from Corsair, so long as the specs match its all good.

Check your motherboard manual for which slots to place your sticks to get the dual-channel setting... usually slots 1&3 and/or 2&4. (Honestly, I have yet to read a mobo manual that accurately and easily describes which slots to place the RAM in for dual-channel, had to read, reread, meditate, and consult a burning bush at the bottom of a lake before finding out which slots to populate:mad: )

meh

Well everytime i plug them into a unit other than the first 2 i cant get the computer to boot. The comp is pretty fast though so i think ill just leave everything the way it is rather than opting to replace the mobo.

You can test them individually, just use one and boot into Windows and check the SPD with CPU-Z... make sure they both come up with the same specs. I read on Newegg.com a reviewer got some PNY Verto RAM, was totally bogus... the specs differed between the sticks.

Of course, if you're sure the sticks are supposed to go in certain slots for dual-channel and you can't boot then it sure sounds like a mobo prob... don't settle for having a busted component, especially if you haven't done anything to the mobo to warrant it being a lemon.

PS: Almost forgot, mobo makers usually color-code the slots to help identify which are the dual-channel slots... on my ASUS A8N32SLI, I believe its blue and black--slot 1-blue, slot 2-black, slot 3-blue, slot 4-black. See if your's is the same.

ok

well im happy w single channel, no complaints so far. Cpuz is recognizing both of the sticks with the same stats. I dunno why its not working dual channel, but is it worth it to make a fuss over? Id have to get a newsolution for the heatspreader and everything if i want to get a new mobo. Just seems like a big pain for a mobo that otherwise is working well.
