Hmmm, lost my 3930k in my first subzero session. The back insulation started to crack when i started to freeze the cpu.Sadly i only discovered it,after i disassembled the motherboard.Moisture found its way in and fried my cpu. Will try to rma, maybe ill be lucky they accept.Maybe the lovely R4E is damaged as well, hmmmm. This happened thursday.Had to work all weekend and i still had 20kg of dice.Saturday i went to copenhagen to buy some art-eraser and bought 3kg of it.(now have enough for next year subzero sessions). Also had some clearcoat, but i have this gigabyte x58a-oc,bought it 2nd hand and it was prepared for subzero with latex.Used some art-eraser to insulate cpusocket and the back of mobo.By saturday evening i was good to go,but had to make a fresh windows install. The dice had vapored into only 7kg and i found i could improve my i7-970 pcmark05 score, but the xp-startup had a grudge on me,hmmm.Had some runs at 39500p,but again xp-start at 220,19 was 0,20 to much, dice was now running short, and i had a half-decent score at 36227,but forgot some tweaks in my distress,as you can see, some sub-scores are way to low.

But im happy with my first subzero experience, next time ill be better prepared and have a 3930k back from RMA.

To bring xp startup down from up to 270ish use super pi on specified harddisk if only just over 220 run 1mg pi if higher use 4,6,8 etc, if you want to get it under control at above 250 then try iometer, 1no worker, 8no i/o 20sec timmer, default access 68%, 204800 sectors. that setting brings down my xpstartup down from 460 to 218 +/- 2.

sorry to hear your first cold trip cost so much,

Was badly prepared for the i7-970 session, but it was my only option,if i wasnt going to totally waste 45£ worth of dice. But i was only ready for heaven,3dmark11 and vantage with a bunch of different gpu`s on the R4E.

And thanks for your comment ,was a major letdown, when i found out my 3930k was dead.

When you prep for cold do you not have 12mm armaflex on a plate, securing the cpu cooler to the underside of the motherboard ?

if you dont have any 12mm armaflex drop me a pm with your address and I will post a sample piece for the job,

I got some advise from rasmus to use 12mm foam from a sleeping pad.I can hardly feel the cold on dice,it insulates very well.No wetting on neither sides. But thanks for your concern and i appreciate it very much.

Gutted to hear about your 3930K mate, i saw your 970 score though, twas pretty good tbh, but i have a feeling you could get a much better score with a few more tweaks. Also congrats on your first sub zero overclocking session. Can't wait to start myself when the money finally starts rolling in for me

Thanks,as marsey said its a whole different ballgame, but its fun fun fun.I think i should have done a 40k+ score, but preparation was done in a hurry and very poorly.Windows install, downloads and tweaking on the run isnt recommended.
