Massive msi gtx hawk problem

like i said in my other post the p6x58 looks very god fella,if not then i would just go with the top end asus ROG board

p6x58d-e is £150 and is better than the Formula, so pretty much if you have to go red & black you pay a lot to have it.

i hate the colour scheme on that board tho, if i went with the rampage 2 extreme i dont want to be losing out on too many features. thats my main concern

Check the NB and SB, but I would pretty much guarantee that is a P6T with some nice coolers and the ROG name attatched to it. If they are the same? get a P6T. Far cheaper, same thing (if they are the same).

South bridge and north bridge. They're the board controllers, basically. North bridge takes care of the buses/voltage/clocks ETC and the south takes care of the SATA, ETC.

Now the north bridges are identical. IE - they're both X58. An Intel north bridge. Look over the other specs (PCIE lane speeds, slots, sata sockets) ETC and see if they are the same.

Asus don't make north/south bridge chips (AKA the chipset) they rely on others. Sooo, I could be right and they could have just slapped on nicer looking coolers (for the north and south bridges) and charge more for the name (ROG).

The P6T is one of the best motherboards *ever* made dude. It's absolutely sublime.

Rampage 2 E.

Chipset - Intel X58/ICH10R (X58 northbridge Intel ICH10R southbridge)

Asus P6T deluxe/professional ETC

Chipset: Intel® X58 / ICH10R. So as I suspected, the same.

Do your homework on the PCIE slots, but it's basically the same board. If it works out cheaper? get it.

**Refer to www.asus.com. Or user manual for the Memory QVL (Qualified Vendor Lists.)

Expansion Slots

: 3 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (at x16/x16/x1 or x16/x8/x8 mode)

1 x PCIe x4

2 x PCI

So you're going SLI right? then it's more than good enough for your needs. What do they cost over there?

I know practically booger all on X58 boards dude. TBCH though the Rampage II E is around the same age. It would be, it's basically the same board (with a worse slot layout IMO, they're gonna be closer together) and lots of tat. And that pretty much makes up a republic of gamers board dude. Bells, whistles and stick on tat.

It has LONG been proven that adding huge coolers to the north and south bridges do very little over a regular cooling set. The P6T as I say has been hailed as one of the very best X58 boards ever made. Hell, even Alienware used to use them.

Your rig is hardly going to be extreme is it? I mean, a 930 is pretty much level entry on the I7 and you are using 460s, budget cards. Now Hayley here? wow ! literally haha. I7 980x with SLI 480s. So in her case it might have been worth going mad on a motherboard (can't remember which one she has now). But in your case?

ROG = overkill dude. Complete and utter overkill.

A P6T is more than good enough for your needs IMO.

well this is my rig atm

i7 930 overclocked to 4ghz or higher

nh d14

corsair dominator gt memory

2x msi 460 hawks

xfx 850 psu

hey just im also stuck which is better 930 or 950?

that p6t looks good but its cheaper then the px58d why? newer board?

I would imagine PX58D is indeed newer. But the fact is the P6T is more than good enough to suit your needs dude.. MAKE SURE you check CPU compatability before buying..

Obviously the 950 is a better chip but it probably costs more. At which point you need to ask yourself is it worth it? Tom is *the* expert on I7s around here. I have never used one as I am far more budget conscious

EDIT. Oh god, you didn't like, buy the XFX psu did you? Can you send it back?

Tom is a very helpful chap, but sadly he's also very busy most of the time. I'm sure he will help you out, but there are many more members here who are clued up on I7.

Then don't. From all accounts XFX psus are about as good as BFG psus were. IE - not good.

All they are is rebrand/repriced. Same as their GPUs.

Get a Corsair or something equally good.

You need around 700w but from a good supply with good rail ampage.

Watts on a PSU count for very very little it's the rail ampage that counts. Apparently (and gosh I find this VERY hard to swallow) a 460 GTX needs a 24 amp rail. Which is insane, but hey, needs must I suppose.

i would go with the PX58D over the p6t v2 as it is newer but thats just me ATM it would be between them to.

i did not see the xfx psu, dude no corsair FTW
