hi there thank you davos again for the reply

my cpu is amd athlon xp 2000+

my heatsink is a box standard one we picked up

motherboard is an asus with onboard graphics

my case is a one thats called dracula not sure of the make

the power suppply is one witch came with the case

i also have a phillps sound agent 2 sound card

512mb of ram

Normally the biggest noise maker within a case is the power supply.

I had a similar problem to yours and changed the power supply to one bought from www.quietpc.co.uk. The next thing to look at is the case itself as adding some sponge or foam to the inside also makes for a drastic effect.

Processor fans and graphics card fans are the next option. See the above mentioned site for more advice

I found an answer to the noise problem for my home theater PC. I just drilled a hole in the wall for the cables and put the base unit in the next room! Total silence :)

Pics of a hole in the wall? lol

It's hidden by a Christmas tree at the moment!

Just had to run the AV cables for the TV and Hi-Fi and then a USB cable to a powered hub for wireless keyboard, mouse and a USB CD drive. Ta da! There are a few extra wires for my SAT box channel changer, IR receiver and monitor extension.

In reality you could run a whole PC rig with just the base unit the other side of the wall.

Doh! The above post was done under the overhalf's name. Damn sharing PCs!

Bah man get your rig pics into that Rig Gallery :D

Hmmm...

It's a beige box. Nothing special. I try to spend my time making my computers work, not looking pretty! That's job enough.

Thanks everyone for the relpies and your suggestions looks like it's my power supply thats making most off the noise like i suspected. Will buy a new quiet one when i have some spare cash available. Anyone got any suggestions as to which is the best i need a 300w supply.

Thank You

Having more experience of babies than computers I think that:

a) The baby will make a lot more noise that the computer, especially in the small hours of the morning.

b) The computer noise will not worry the baby one iota.

Save your money for a dummy! ;)
