MachII Duff?

Will the prommy go down to -50ish if you have the evap head off (in open air), and turn the machII on.

I have an old unit, and when I turn it on it gets cold and condensation drips off the end - but no ice forms on the head... ...what does this mean? Is it the sign that it needs a re-gas? I have been told that it will only go down to temp under load, but I find this hard to believe...

The evap temp should be lower if the head is just hanging loose. If the condensation doesnt freeze...something be wrong.

What temp does the display say before it shuts down??

But yes if it doesn't freeze then it sounds like you have a leak

Its a dodgy unit I picked up second hand. It has no control board, you just plug it in to the mains and off it chugs. I was told it was gassed with R507, which is spose to be good, it has much larger pipes and condenser than my std mkII. i was also told that it has a baker head, although I don't know how to confirm this.

It still gets cold to the touch, like touching the inside of the freezer, but not that cold. Would it do this if it had leaked? or could it have not been re-gassed properly?

Yes mate could well do if it has a leak it will run on untill all the refrigerant has gone also it wont frost up if you have no fans running etc

You shouldn't have made me do that, I cam across the pictures of the Chilly1, and it got my drooling! I gotta mop up the puddle now :o
