Macbook pro or air?

QuietOne

always shouting
Its coming up to xmas and i am thinking of getting the mrs a macbook. I have had a look at different ones but cant decide on which. She does graphics so she mainly uses photoshop and browsing.

Specs im thinking of are.

I5 2.3ghz i think
4gb ram
128gb ssd or 500gb mechanical drive
Probably be mountain lion
Intel hd5000 (capable of doing graphics/filters in photoshop?)

Ive seen a macbook pro and air with the same specs and the same price but not sure which would be better.

AFAIK, The Pro models always used to have a DVD burner where the Air models did not as they were built to be as thin and light as possible.

The OS version doesn't matter as you can upgrade to Mavericks for free :)
Edit; Do you have links to them?

$2000 facebook machine?

Haha true. Im not a fan of macs. Girlfriend is though.

Here are the links of the ones i was looking at but im not sure the best site to get them from.

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/apple-laptops/apple-macbook-pro-13-13730045-pdt.html

Ehm, I'm seeing a lot of difference from those links:

CPU
Pro: 2.3GHz - 3.3GHz Turbo boost. 6MB Cache
Air: 1.3GHz - 2.6GHz Turbo boost. 3MB Cache

GPU
Pro: Nvidia GeForce GT 650M
Air: Not mentioned, so probably Intel HD Graphics

HDD
Pro: 500GB Mechanical HDD - 5400 RPM
Air: 256GB SSD

Screen
Pro: 15" - 1440x900
Air: 11.6" - 1366x768

And then the Pro has some extras like an SD Card Reader and an Ethernet port.

Mind you, the pictures on those pages do not fit the products. For one there are some I/O in/outputs in the pictures that are mentioned in the specification section to not be there. In the picture they also both have the OS X Mavericks background while they run OS X Lion.

Does she really need a laptop though, or would a desktop be fine too?

I must have misread the air first time round. She is a laptop person. Her work is very relaxed so you can do stuff like watch movies etc at work when quiet.

By the looks of it the pro is a better choice but currys doesnt seem to know what they are advertising.

Is there any reputable sites that sell macs?

Thanks for looking for me.

dvd burner? ohhh it's 2005, i see.

then you should be a good boyfriend and show her the light.

She has been using an Acer gaming laptop from 2007 which is dual core, 4gb of ram and a gtx 9800m gpu which recently died and now she wants to go apple with a bite taken out of it
