loud AQX pump?

i have a slight problem with my aqx pump, i finally got some tubing today to test the whole setup (when i say tubing i mean some lengths of garden hose i found in the garden) now i put the whole thing together, made sure all the tubing was full so the pump wouldnt be running dry. turned it all on and it made was making alot of noise, putting the rubber pad on the bottom of it helped but its still very loud, i can just hear the pumps' innards going round and round, any way to quieten it down? it was just the block the pump and a big jug of water turned resevoir in total about 3 feet of tubing.

I have the exact same pump and know not to run it dry. My question is how do I test the pump is working correctly and also not too noisily?

Which is the inlet and which is the outlet? Decriptions such as the vertical port/horizontal port will be fine.

Any help is appreciated, I am well on my way to building a W-C rig so now's about the right time to learn what I can. Thanks all! :)

Sometimes u can have air trapped in the pump - this increasses the noise levels.

Thanks for that mav, but how do I get water into the pump if it is dry to begin with? Do I just attach inlet and outlet hoses and fill each hose with water, perhaps blowing it through the tube? And then plug the molex into the psu? Please could you also tell me which is the inlet and which is the outlet port? (Aquaxtreme model) Thanks! :)

What do you think of the following set-up then guys: if I had a large reservoir say a metre above the pump (connected to the inlet port) then the water should flow down due to gravity. Maybe I would have to suck on or syphon the outlet to ensure the pump is filled with water before turning on the power and then I could return the outlet loop back into the reservoir to enable testing for an indeterminate length of time. Are there any flaws in this method?

At the moment I have 1 Aquaxtreme 5OZ-DC12 Inline Pump with 1/2" barbed fittings, and am considering using another same type pump in series with the first. What advantages, if any, will I gain from this 2 pump series setup and are there any disadvantages I should know about?

Forgive me for asking again but are the inlet and outlet ports clearly marked with an arrow indicating flow? Or what? :)

The inlet port is the horizontal one inline with the rotation of the motor axes. You have to imagine the water being sucked in the middle and propelled outward by the impellar...

I believe some of your questions have been answered here already my friend.

The short answer is that you prefill the system and bleed water though until you have a system part filled with water - then you start up pump and top up the system with water so as not to allow it to run dry.

Thats how I do mine - but if you wanted to learn the way I did - You can of course build up a watercooling loop (not connected to any expensive computer parts) on a workbench and see what filling system works best for you.

Or if all this scare the living daylights out of you talk to sales@extremeprometeia.com and ask for a ready made system ;) Or purchase a watercooling kit with a pump that can run dry for short periods of time :)

Of course if it were me I would start another thread asking for help - to avoid the thread going too far off topic that is.

Stocky, that's just the answer I was hoping someone would provide. Thanks!

I'm not pointing any fingers but I do wish people would read all the post(s) and answer accordingly if they do know the answer of course!

@ Mav, if my question had already been answered correctly and in such a fashion that I would have understood it, then why would I persist in asking the same questions? Instead of making pointless and half-true comments you should have started with the third line of your last reply which began "That's how I do mine" and if you had read my post beginning with "What do you think of the following set-up then guys" you would have known that that piece of information you provided was exactly what I was after. It all goes back to people not reading posts correctly, and why when composing replies/posts/etc I always use punctuation.

Anyway this is getting way off topic now, it was not before but I felt like I was being spoken to like a child hence my retort. It is not meant as an attack at anyone but merely to give you some idea who you are dealing with. I am 42 years old for chrissakes, give me the respect I deserve.

Thanks for providing the correct answers anyway! No bad feelings, hey! :)

I don't think people mean to seem like that - it probably occurs due to mis-reading/ communication. It's a very friendly forum here and everyone is always willing to help out when they can :B

Let us know how you get on with the system build :)

Thanks for the interjection stocky, and yes I know this is a very friendly forum (probably the most easy-going too!) compared to the vast majority out there and that's why I am beginning to take an active part in it.

I will apologize to anyone who feels they have been offended or spoken to out of turn and hope they will reciprocate.

I will certainly keep you up to date with my system builds/currently work-in-progress. I have some W-C parts on order with Phil and I am having some work done to my Chilly1 modded Mach II also. Look out for the results, you may be pleasantly surprised!

I thank you for calming the waters! LOL :)
