thanks guys

Is there certain software he needs? A certain OS he wants? OEM or Retail? Are most of the games he play cpu intensive or gpu? So many questions...

os-windows 7
most games are played via steam

he realy doesent have a budget but ide say for all the kit £500-£550

I would go with something like the Ivy I3, 8gb ram, cheap MATX board and a GTX 660 mate.

Fractal Core 1000 is £28 atm (case like).

I managed to come up with this after searching Amazon for a while. It isn't exactly a power house, in fact none of the components would be the greatest. However it's pretty much everything (with the exception of the mouse and keyboard) for £544. You're not going to be maxing out games on it but it should manage modern games at settings like medium fairly well.

It'll be the onboard GPU for gaming, but it's the best onboard GPU you can get at the minute. The memory would be overkill normally but the APUs work better with faster memory. Also the OS is only an OEM version, the full version is far more expensive.

CPU - AMD A10-5800
Motherboard - MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 AMD FM2 Micro ATX Motherboard (Socket FM2)
Memory - Corsair CML8GX3M2A1866C9R LP Vengeance 8GB 1866MHz CL9 DDR3 Memory Two Module Kit
CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (120mm)
Power Supply - Corsair Builder Series CXM 500W Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX/EPS PSU
Optical Drive - LG GH24NS90.AUAA50B 24x SATA Bare Internal DVD Rewriter - Black
Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATAIII 6Gb/s 16MB Cache 3.5 inch Internal Hard Drive OEM
Monitor - Samsung S22B150 21.5 inch Widescreen LED Monitor - Gloss Black (1920 x 1080 Full HD, 5ms, VGA)
Case - Zalman Z9 Plus Midi Tower Case - Black (ATX, M-ATX, 7 Expansion Slots, Supports Bottom PSU Installation, Upto 7 System Fans, Tool Free HDD Installation)
OS - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1, 64-bit, English, 1 Pack, DSP OEI (PC) (This OEM software is intended for system builders only

The monitor and the OS are eating into the budget in a big way, otherwise I'd be getting a discrete GPU.

Also the fact it's an AMD rig would be fitting, given your name! :p
