Lappy OS

Hey Guys

My Sister is having some issues with her Lappy.

This is the explantion she gave me of the problem......

OS is Windows 7 Pro

When I shut it down completely it does not want to start back up, it gets to the black screen with the flashing cursor and then won't go any further, I then have to turn it on and off a few times (sometimes says NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND). Eventually it loads up but painfully slow. This only seems to occur on a complete shut down, if you put it to sleep it wakes up ok.

Am thinking maybe the HDD is dying, but I also know it could be a number of things

What do you guys think??

Cheers Hay

I had a similar problem with my xps laptop. It ran fine when it was running but I dreaded restarting because the bios and windows took forever to load. Before I even got to the bios it would tell me to restart because its not detecting my power adapter. Id have to restart 3-5 times. After some playing with the power brick...I got it to run like normal. So maybe its an issue with the power brick.

Do a full scandisk when you can

Even better would be to boot to the recovery console using the install cd or similar. run chkdsk /f I think it is. To make sure have a quick google on the chkdsk command.

Might be worth using fixboot in the same console too. also maybe fixmbr

After that if it still doesn't work you think you could copy vital data to another HDD, format, reinstall win7 and see how it goes? Helped my laptop a lot. Now even my dad wants to use it for work
