Jim has passed his driving test!

Do you have a car yet? I need to know who to look out for!

Congrats btw, took me 3 darn times to pass in Brentwood, had some really mean examiners too. Strange thing was I passed my worst test, I didn't deserve to, but I should have passed the second!

Yeah Brentwood has the lowest pass rate in the UK iirc. At least it was the lowest I could find when searching through the stats on the net.

Yeah I have a car. You're look (well listening really) for this:

with this on the back:

Essex boy, yes I know :)

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha TOM that me me laugh dude

also i woukld be wuite happy if my first car was a lexus IS300

Ha, you chav Jim!

No, but really that's a nice car, I like it. I have to share a car with my dad atm, just a Clio. Should be getting my own in the next couple of years (one year left at uni), no idea what to get.

It's a great feeling being able to just jump in and drive anywhere you like, savour it now.

It's amazing how many lexi are around ( © Alan Partridge ) the Japanese Mercedes :)

Nice first car tbh :) my first car was a 1litre Polo

For some reason, I always thought you had passed you test Jim!

Well done anyways, and nice machine. That shape of Lexus always catches my eye!

are you gna do anything else to it,a induction kit would go nice with that cat back

Maybe I should get an engine bay shot :p

Already replaced the back box, mid box, got a de-cat'd manifold. Haven't got rid of the main cat yet...well not until I can find a hooky MOT place :p

Got an SRT Intake with it's own piggyback ECU (so the engine actually takes advantage of the mods) and an air diversion plate for pushing more air over the rad.

Next mod will be to drop it by 35mm on the stock shocks (as I want to keep the drive comfort).

...and eventually fit a Turbo. Though that's a way off yet due to insurance - even though I may buy the kit now as they are rare as rocking horse poo.

Oh, I've also just bought some different bumpers from the breakers....

My ex wrecked two brand new IS300's that I bought for her.... /me facepalm

And like a twit, right after that I wrecked MY baby..... :(

have you not thought of custom REMAP? they can get abit more power off, what type of remap is it OBD or serial port?

gettin a turbo is a expensive job lol, forged pistons forged manifold thats over 1k but you are talking some horses lol

what you pulling at the moment about 220+

It's utter horse sh*t what they make you go through in England to drive a car. Lessons - horse sh*t. Just a way for some fat sweaty mongoloid who smells like wet farts from sitting in a car seat all day to say "no you're not ready yet.. no, you're not ready yet" and screw as much money out of you as he can.

In the U.S.A I failed my theory. Once. Basically I didn't bother to read their highway manual thing and took for granted that the U.K way was the same. I read the highway manual and passed it 100%. It's nothing but remembering stuff.

The actual test? Well, I drove down the street, pulled into a sideroad and did a 'K' Turn. Went back and got handed my license.

I then drove my car for five years without a single accident.

Lessons, rules and tests don't mean squat. It's all a way to screw you out of money. Some people belong behind a wheel, some don't. And it has nothing to do with whether you passed your test or not and everything to do with whether you are an asshole and don't pay attention to the road and look ahead.

Driving used to absolutely exhaust me both physically and mentally. And that's when you know you are doing it right.

Oh hells to the yeah, here we go.

Friend's 1010 BHP Skyline.

Wagon Mafia 700 BHP STI spec Scooby.

Me 'playing with' a Honda Civic. Funny that, hide your intercooler and people think it's game on.

Unfortunately you can't remap the stock ECU in the IS300. You have to run a piggyback ECU. The one that comes with the SRT intake just adjusts the fuel mix to make best use of the extra air and also prevents a check-engine light due to the MAF sensor giving incorrect readings due to the much larger diameter intake pipe.

With the IS300 most people stick to the stock engine until they push past 400bhp. The engine is basically the same as an N/A Supra so it's tough as old boots up to a certain point.

I havent dyno'd the car yet to be honest and probably wont until I get some new cam gear and possibly a higher stall torque converter. The SRT Intake + ECU is supposed to give an extra 30bhp (dyno proven - but still sounds too good to be true), new headers 10-15bhp, new catback exhaust 5bhp probably. Whether that's at the wheels or not I dunno.

I had considered kitting it with NOS for the moment as believe it or not the insurance company treat this as 'general engine mods' and it works out a tonne cheaper than a S/C or T/C. I know its a bit 'fast & furious' but in a way it makes sense. Most of the time I'll be pottering around with the kids in the car, but some times I'll be alone and lookign for some fun. Especially if its hooked up to a progressive controller it'll act more like a forced induction mod than a 2 second squirt of power.

hmm i would of thought all ECU's could be remaped, well like i said a custom re-map might be better but you would have to get another ECU.

a intake would not give alot of power,i am not up on SRT but even the best ones dont seem to pull for than 20bhp at the very best of times.

do you have a cold air feed?,5bhp sounds about right for a cat-back.

when i mod a car i usaly remap the ECU,fit a inducution kit with a cold air feed and then put in a full exhaust system

and then go from there, they seem to be the cheapest way of getting the most power.

and NOS is pointless unless you are at santa pod IMO,i would use the money else wear, get a turbo KIT (full kit)

i bet you could get to around 550bhp depending on the turbo and PSi

and just enjoy the car fella,it will be quite fast ATM and its a nice car anyway

There are loads of ECUs that can not be remapped due to their design. A lot of car manufacturers do not design their components to take more horsepower. For example my Tiburon (coupe) also needed a piggyback ECU. It was a real git to get working properly too as the Hyundai ECU is designed to learn your driving style and adjust all of the fuel ratios accordingly. This is why it can not be remapped.

Also, the Tiburon (coupe) has high compression pistons as it was designed to be N/A. I had to change mine to lower compression and upgrade the injectors to V6 mustang ones.

In the end I decided on moderate boost and not to bother with the piggyback ECU. It was a bit of a pain because every now and then when it started to run rich I would have to disconnect the battery and stomp on the brake pedal to drain the ECU. Then I would have to go out and drive like a maniac for the ECU to set itself. Problem was for about 35 mins the car would run like a complete dog and be gobbing out black smoke.

The parking lot I used to park my car in looked like the set of Thriller every time I did a reset :D
