Ivy Bridge Pricing

Has any news been released on 'confirmed' IB pricing yet?

Just wondered as some chips are released in 2 weeks and didn't know if anyone has found any pre-orders or prices at all.

Just thought there would have been something confirmed by now as it is only 2 weeks away. Suppliers should have heard something by now shouldn't they??

I'm sure there is a confirmed price somewhere but we won't find out for sure until the NDA is lifted on the day of release.

Those revised prices sheza linked are nice and low but I'm skeptical about how much of that will be soaked up by UK retailers. I can't see the i7 selling for £200 and the i5 selling for £140 on release!

I was expecting ~£240 for the 3770k and ~£180 for the 3570k. Anything less is a bonus.

From what I have heard they are going to cost the same as the sand bridge cpu's so an i5 will be about £180 although you can pick up a sandy bridge for about £150 - £160 on offer fairly easy.

Mhm, take a look at US pricing for the GTX 680. $499 and yet we see prices up to £450 which is clearly not an exact conversion. If you expect £240 for the 3770K then that's made me happy, because I was expecting anywhere up to £300 for it and I only have a budget that stretches £260.

Yea the 3770k isn't worth more than £260 even if they try to sell it. I'd get a 2600k for £200 instead! To be honest the IB chips will have to see an improvement in overclocking to justify a £20-30 higher cost compared to their SB brothers otherwise I'll just go SB!

I saw a review on these forums saying that overclocking was better than SB on the same volts but heat was considerably more too (and they were using H100). That suggests to me that in order to make use of IB's better overclocking people might need custom watercooling,

I just figured it's time for an upgrade from Bloomfield, and what better thing to arrive than Ivy Bridge! You make me worry about my choices

that made me a bit sad to read that because I bought a H100 just for ivybridge, I was told the um stable overclock on Ivy is 5.35 ghz, with water cooling with air it's like 4.7, Then I've also heard ivybridge 3770k reaching 7ghz with all cores disabled on frozen ice

I am in the same boat. Just started getting bits in for my rig as well, luckily not board or mem yet though so not too bad. Might wait a week or two after release and see what everyone says it clocks like

from what iv seen and read the ib with test cpu was running at 4.8 but quite a high temp. and a sandy bridge was running 5.2. the sb won on almost everything but not by the margen you would exspect from a 0.4gz over clock extra and thay were sayed thay were not sure wether the temps were becouse of them been pre dnd chips for testing.

atm im planing on a z77 with an ib 3770k some tracer mem just for show 16gs about and also thinking for going custom watercooling loop but not 100% sure yet might just end up getting another antec kooler 920 depending on price and saving not building the system till july or august to give me some time to save

Ivy will be a stonking chip, don't worry too much guys! IB might favour better cooling but water has always allowed for higher OCs and more volts - that will never change. You will still get a great chip.

IB is only a refinement of SB - if you haven't got the cooling to make use of the IB overclock potential then don't feel like its a step backwards to pick up a SB chip. SB is still awesome and will be very affordable. In fact if I had SB I wouldn't even consider upgrading to IB - neither the processor or z77 chipset are worth buying for a combined performance increase of about 10%.

If it's any use to anyone - I'm still undecided about whether to go SB or IB (I have just got rid of my phenom II rig). The performance increase must match the cost increase. Taking the 2500k/3570k as an example; you can get a 2500k for £144 off Aria at the time of writing. If IB performs 15% better under overclock then it has got to cost less than £170 or I won't think it's worth the money. SB is still too good a chip to not consider and with Haswell due out next year I expect that:

1) SB will still be alive and kicking well into the Haswell release date.

2) IB will be throughly beaten by Haswell performance.

Personally I prefer to wait until mid way through the life of a product before buying it - you get the better deals and all the issues are ironed out. Take the amd 79x0 series for example. I have been considering a new gpu for a while now. If I'd jumped in back in december I would have got a 7970 for £450. Next week I expect to get a 7950 for £270 (which will perform as well as the 7970 when they are both overclocked). Sadly I can't afford to wait as long cpu wise because I no longer have a pc :/ Thus why SB is still definitely under consideration.

My advice:

1) If you have an SB chip then don't consider upgrading.

2) If you have a pc but want to upgrade and can wait - hang on a couple of months until the IB deals start runnning in.

3) If you need to buy a chip now then don't just get IB "because it is new - and therefore better". Consider both SB and IB, if IBs price doesn't meet the performance gain then don't get it.

4) If you are an overclocker then definitely consider what cooling you will use and whether SB or IB will suit you more as a result. We will find out more about this as reviews roll in over the beginning of May.

That's my thoughts anyway. Might have ranted on a little bit!
