Issue with PCIE Riser

Hi all,

Got a PCIE Riser with my case. It works fine with the 1030 I have, however, if I try to use it with a 1080Ti it doesn't!

No signal to monitor as if it's not there.

Could it be that it's a poor quality riser? Or is there some sort of incompatibility with 1080Ti's and risers?

It's the riser. Linus did a test with a Titan XP IIRC and used about ten of them and it still worked fine.

Hopefully this is the issue. Are some risers X4 only? It' the standard PCIE RIser that came with the Enthoo Elite so I'm unsure if it's ny good.

There are X1 raisers for farming. Raisers are very delicate. They can be easily damaged.

Yes it would work if it detects only X4 slot. If it detects X16 (which probably is the case), and some of the pins are broken then it would fail.

Yeah true. One thing I know is that good ones are ruddy expensive. Like £45 or so expensive. But worth it, as you can see from the video there.

Yea i forgot to mention that. If you are using case mount that is in front of regular PCIE openings then there is a problem. But if you use those mounting kits that go closer to the motherboard instead of PCIE covers (like Tom did in RRR build) you should have enough room for GPU to breathe. There are some of us brimming with knowledge here, but how many people will use case mounting points just because they think that if it is there then GPU should go in, and there will be no problems.

Aye, I'm still leaning in the direction of the Cooler Master option for a Verti GPU.

Yup you would be a total Toby to run a GPU butted right up next to a solid panel of any sort tbh.

Ed. I do kinda like that new EVGA case though !

I am one of the very rare people who actually uses more than 1 slot on the motherboard. So no matter how good it looks it isn't an option for me. I wonder why ITX, or MATX boards are not becoming standard.

I'm thinking of possibly modding my case to allow my WC GPU to be vert mounted. I am going to change out the 120 rad for a 240 in a couple of weeks. Will look into the possibility then. Mind you my card does have a really sexy active back plate..
