Is this issue related to my overclocking?

hi guys and gals,

not sure where to post this.....so move if required mods

in the last 2 days my rig has been acting abnormal. below summarises the series of event that occur:

1. computer freezes randomly

2: after a few minutes the screen goes black

3: then after a min or 2, everything goes back to normal.

^^^^^this issue is weird, any ideas what it could be?

both my gpu and cpu are overclocked, temps on load are 45c and 55c respectivly on water.

This issue occurs when browsing and reading pdf/using Mword. (could occur in other scenarios but havent checked)

if anyone has had this issue or has an idea i would be grateful.

oh yh i have a vertex 3 with the latest firmwire on it as i wouldnt be suprised if that was casuing the freezing.

thanks

Anything in the event logs? Have you tried to remove and re-installed Adobe and Office?

nothing in the event logs :/ i would try removing the programs but i have exams and im using them, i will try this as soon as i get a chance.

to me it feels like a hardware issue although i hope it is not

Used to get something similar with an unstable GPU overclock (560Ti), but it was only a matter of seconds.

I'd grab GPU-Z, leave it open, then check it after the freeze and see if the overclock has dropped back to stock timings. If so, there's your problem.

you sure its not update related?

ms rolled out a few of late, maybe a system restore could rule out software?

It might be, just having an indepth look at eventviewr and i found something i had missed earlier, its to do with microsoft update and had like 99 errors in the last few hours. gonna check that out

here it is below, i followed microsofts instruction so i should have resolved it:

Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab> with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.

Thanks

good idea, will do that now! thanks

Will let you all know how t his problem prgresses

i think i figured it out.

its MSE (seqcurity essentrils) thats causing this.

EppOobe.etl <<<<its that file which on a microsoft forum i was told to delete and reboot, when i loged on it went black again so it defo is MSE, here what the event log says:

Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D

so after booting a new file was created in replace of the one i deleted.

hopefully problem solved, will keep you all updated

The same happened to my old 5770. That was because I put Furmark on, went to the toilet, came back 5 minutes later to realise the GPU fan was locked at 20% speed, case fans were turned off on my fan controller and Furmark reported GPU temps of 119 degrees C

Never pulled the power cord out the back so fast in my life...

Doubt you'll have the same issue, but it does definitely sound to me like graphics. If the screen ever goes black then fixes itself thats normally the graphics resetting itself. That could be to do with the overclock, or the hardware on the card or even drivers, pretty hard to tell which tbh...try rolling back drivers to a previous version maybe?

ok everyone, i underclocked everything and error still persisted.

all errors were talking about lack of space.....

so i though i should check my memory usage and wow.......

i have 8 gb of ram.......... why and how is this happening? everything is at stock btw

what is using up my mem? any help guys!

Have you managed to restore to pre-update state? Windoze has gone bubbyes in it's latest mutation it would seem (as said).

Maybe it's opening as many instances of the same faulty string of commands as it can in a dopey attempt to get one successful run - sounds like something it would do.

My only advice is to keep running the OCs except for any memory controller OCs, which you should revert to stock in the odd chance they are butchering your DRAM management.

Install Linux as dualboot and see if the problem is global or just confined to Windows.

iw ill install linux asap but in the mean time i need a program that can log memory usage, any ideas?

Hey guys,

Do you think it could be a memory controller issue? Maybe overclocking the CPU damaged it?

As I'm looking a mem usage by program's and it doesn't add up, currently my program's use about 1.5gb but my current mem usage is around 5gb....

Why?

I'm lost for ideas :/ I can't leave the rig on for too long, I have to restart it every few hours to reset mem usage.

Anyone had this issue?

Any ideas? Peeps I'm lost here :/ trying to revise for exams and don't have time to reformat (which may of may not fix it)

The only way I can think to test is by installing a second OS.

I doubt you've killed the chip or it'd most likely have just died and that'd of been the end of the matter - probably just messed up Windows at worst. Reinstall may be your only option in that case.

Well I'm installing Ubuntu, hopefully it's a windows issue only!

If you wana know what the MAX something has used in task manager go to the processes tab then click view > select columns, then tick "memory - peak working set" i tend to use "memory - working set" over the default ones. so i might be an idea to tick that while your there.
