is sata 6Gbps computability with 3Gbps

hi ,

i'm planning to buy a 2 TB hd from Seagate.i'm having second thoughts.i would like your expert opinion on it .

i had been to one of the stores to purchase a 2TB HD and the shopkeeper advised me that it is good to buy a 1TB hd rather than a 2 TB ,because the life of the 2tb hd are bad .is it true?

secondly is sata 6Gbps compatabiltiy with 3Gbps.can i go for 6Gbps? in a few months i will be buying a sata 6.0gbps compatible motherboard.

All drives fail, never take a "this is more reliable" approach to hard drives unless you're purchasing enterprise disks with million hour MTBF ratings. Always back up your data and purchase whatever disk size you need with confidence.

SATA 6Gb/ps also known as SATA III is backwards compatible with SATA 3Gb/ps aka SATA II. You can happily use SATA II drives on SATA III ports and vice versa.

There are still better ones out there though. I favour western digital having used their drives for many years both at home and professionally.

The use of the drive needs to be considered. If it will be a primary drive for windows and programs then I'd suggest a caviar black. If it is a storage drive then I'd get a caviar green EZRX. The larger drives have had issues because of multiple platters however the latest WD models are very good.
