iPOD Nano Gen2 Repair

A friend had an iPOD which had stopped working due to her friends abusing it (I think it had something to do with wet grass but I couldn't follow it!)

Anyway, I first tried to dry/ bake it but that didn't fix it so I thought I'd see if I could dismantle it :D

Basically there are quite a few tiny, tiny screws beneath the white plastic top and bottom cover. I removed these (and headphone jack connector) and then just pushed the internal assembly up and out of the top - quite a funky design, I must say.

Anyway here is a pic I took and thought I'd share the moment.

To cut a late night short, it had sand/ salt in there which I had to clean out. I also had to remove the control dial and dismantle that as it was suffering from clicking loads whenever you touched the dial. But it is now fixed and working :B

As they say, water isn't actually electrically conductive it's the impurities in it (lots of salt in this one). Dunno why I need to mention that as in most cases water will conduct, doh!

Anyway, basically just cleaned it all out and it worked fine :)

oh yeh, that pic's actually with the touch wheel removed - the shorting in there was causing the clicking problems.
