IPB stands for Invision Power Board. I see your using Vbulletin of course, this is oldschool stuff these days. There are some better features, for example, people can change their profile background, like on youtube. There are many different things that can be done. It is also a tad cheaper than Vbulletin. Although messing around with forums is easier said than done and can turn into complete chaos. Believe me I know.

Thanks

The reason that we are using this version of the forum as its been tweaked to literally be bombproof so that we don't have any little intrusions like last time, changes will be made but only when they are safe and worth doing. The Guv has ultimate control so if he doesn't see it fit to move to something else then we will just have to respect his decision and reasoning

Oh, I had not realised someone had made security improvements to these forums.

(story time (: )

I was previously a "security chief" on a world of warcraft emulation forum, I made the Vbulletin forum bombproof (the community and the general people involved in the type of thing are simply untrustworthy so it was necessary) the owner of the forum decided to change the forum board software to IPB. I was proper pissed as my work was lost. So the moral of the story i suppose is, seems The Guv has these security measures in place, keep them.

Although as a previous owner of both IPB and Vbulletin, my recommendation still stands for IPB, bombproof or not :) the sleekness and general looks and user friendlyness is in a class of its own :)

Kind Regards

We had it before, it was very nice, but it was exploited and caused the forum to be down many times.

IPB is full of holes and needs constant updates, which means a reskin everytime.

Its a pain in the arse to keep up with and if not you get hacked.

vBulletin is easier and safer. Youd think by the fact I do this for a living Id have thought of these options......

I made my own forum just as a test and me and some friends where using it and the amount of work you need to put in to run it. My forum only had about 20 members, OC3D has about 10k + members so my hats of to Tom and the rest of the admins and moderators :p

I've had to manually pull a very nasty virus/backdoor/rootkit/sql injection module out of IPB, took me a few days.. This was introduced by a bloody forum skin for the mobile verison. Believe me if we go IPB I won't be a happy bunny. It's slow, resources intensive, over-heavy and reliant on Javascript and has far too many hooks and other bullcrap to be considered anywhere near as efficient as this place is now ;)

(yes that was a small rant, I was very angry when this other forum got hacked...(it wasn't oc3d) )
