Intel Skylake i5 6600K & i7 6700K 1151 Z170 Review

Great review, the only one so far to explore overclocking the bclk and what results!!

Would really like to see how this affects performance in games with a discrete GPU.

PCGamer did some stuff on it as well as a few others, Most reported either on par performance at 1440P with a dedicated GPU using prior CPU's and the ones who reported AMAZING results compared to prior CPU's using dedicated GPU's, Well those are the ones you don't pay attention to as a lot of people are getting wise to the fact some reviewers like to sugar coat their results.

Theres SFA in it CPU to CPU. You can even chuck an AMD CPU in and it doesnt effect things THAT much.

CPU perf did go up though.

Does anyone know, if there's a something coming between the Asus Z170-A and the deluxe, like a Pro model? I really like Asus' mainstream z170 boards, but the deluxe is far too expensive for me and the 170-A is missing some features I'd like to have

I saw some photos of a probable Pro version... same here, I'd like to have integrated wifi without having to buy a 350€ mobo

Memory Divisors

Hello,

I am looking into buy a new system based on a 6700K and I am having some doubts about the memory speed that I shall choose.

Concerning the BLK, if while overcloking for 200Mhz as an exemple, what is the minimum memory speed that I need? (2400/2666/2800/3xxx)?

Thanks.

Youll be fine with all of those - if youre overclocking the BCLK though get the fastest memory you can afford :)

Thanks for the anwser.

i am an old school OC (LOL) and the fact of having freedon with the BLK really atracts me.

Is there a rule of thumb for memory speed/ BLK ???

Something else:

2 or 4 Dimms???

In my time the lesser Dimms the better.

But maybe a (2X) 8 gb Stick could be too dense to achive some decent OC... i guess I have been "out" for sometime now. lol

Not tested enough to tell right now matey tbh but I wouldnt be looking to OC the memory too much because its going to be hit and miss with the silicone lottery on that

A pro later but nothing right now

Don't want OC the MEM, just have freedom with the BLK... as much is possible.

At the same time not to sell a kidney to buy RAM :D

Therefore I was wondering for the 200 mhz BLK (if at all achievable with my chip) what MINIMUM Memory speed I could get on the BIOS?? ( I don't have the board yet, don't know the Multis )

This needs a thread of its own dude, when you touch the BCLK the mem will change so youll always be overclocking or underclocking it

I cant remember what the minimum divider is at 200bclk tbh - I honestly wouldnt advise the lowest memory speed anyways dude.

Its difficult to explain this stuff when you dont even have it yet and know what Im going on about in the BIOS either.

It's still valid. Obviously the minimum number is related to the memory channel configuration.

On Tom's 2 dimms had better overclocking results than 4, at least on some z170 tested ( especially an Asrock one )

OK,

I remember well all this stuff from the FSB times... Addictive :D

I am going to follow your advice and buy the highest speed I can afford and try to avoid to sell any body parts...

I am waiting for a Asus deluxe on a WebShop in Germany were I usually buy my stuff, they are sold out, also the hero is sold out lol.

Anyway maybe could be interesting to make thread on the BLK thing later on, I am quite sure people will go crazy on this stuff.

Thank you for the time you take to answer my questions, it is much apretiated.=00=
