Intel Skylake i5 6600K & i7 6700K 1151 Z170 Review

That was a heart video haha, well it was a bigger step up that I was expecting. So place your bets now, how long till dice upgrades ;-) hehehe

Hi

Epic video Tom! Even though I have 4790K, I want one! What a hopeless PC junkie I am. Quick question, are there any iTX boards yet? I have not seen any shown. Would love to have an Impact board as I am waiting on delivery of the new Case Labs Nova X2M iTX case.

Thank you

Yeah I want one as well, but I fear that there's no point seeing where I'm coming from (Sandy Bridge) for games.

Edit: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9483/intel-skylake-review-6700k-6600k-ddr4-ddr3-ipc-6th-generation/22 yeah, not bad for my good old trusty Sandy Bridge :)

The i7-6700k will likely be my next upgrade.

Some are complaining about it not being much of an upgrade from the 4790k. But for me, Z170 & a 6700k would be one hell of a step-up over my really really old 990FX motherboard and my newer (but still old) FX-8350.

In all fairness this chip isn't meant for people on Z97, It's meant for people on much much older chips, For pure gaming though people on Sandy will still not REALLY see any point in upgrading.

Well nicer MB with newer updated features and relieving the upgrade itch :D

I have a question Guv or for anyone else that might have played with a 3600MHz memory kit. Pretty much all X99 or Z170 motherboards only support up to 3333 or 3400MHz memory yet 3466 and 3600 kits exist. Do you have to run a baseclock higher than 100MHz to achieve the higher memory clocks such as 3600MHz and can any motherboard (within reason) do that?

Anyway i'm just curious as to how memory kits are rated at speeds beyond what motherboards actually support on paper.

i7 6700K is definitely going to be my next upgrade. I was planning to go X99 5960X but having just seen the overclocked 6700K smash it for less than half the price my mind is made up. That, with a pair of 980Tis, on the upcoming ROG 34" monitor... yummy.

Read the review in work this morning (oops, sorry, on my lunch break ;)) and watched the video this evening. Both excellent as always!

Looks like it's time to upgrade from the trusty 3570K, but to a 6600 or 6700 - that is the question..!

Hi all,

So if you were to choose between a i7 6700k and an i7 5820k what would you choose folks?

My use will be gaming mostly and the odd streaming/record of it and edit it and upload....The only thing that is certain of my very badly needed upgrade is a Corsair AX760 and a Corsair Carbide Air 240

Many thanks :)

I am realy thinging about grabing that 5820k tbh 6 core vs 4 core + DX12 gameing comeing real soon that 6 core is looking real nice (and its currently cheaper than the 6700k!)

I'm finding the 6700k around £280 at present and the 5820k at £290 (both not incl del but still cheaper than your usual UK retailers)

Would you say I'm crazy to pair it with a couple of Fury Nano's when they release...that card looks immensely cute haha.

Not even Amazon? Aria? OverclockersUK?

I'm thinking 5820k would be overkill for me but at the same time, its only a tenner more (you'd spend more on a bloody dominos!) and both Skylake and Haswell-E would both use DDR4 anyway......but then there's there's those really nice overclocks....So conflicted haha.

Amazon sometimes for outher things not computer stuff ive been sent secondhand video cards and cpu's (when ordering new items) and there a pain in the backside to send things back scan has allways looked after me if i have had a problem with anything i have ordered.

Edit such temptation...i will be on bean's on toast for the next 4 weeks if i do it lol
