Instability Core speed

Hi everyone
smile.gif

I am running on an Intel 15 2500k CPU.

At the moment my Core Speed is at 3.39 (+-) MHz on CPU-Z

Just yesterday when I checked CPU-Z it was showing 1596.3MHz? In fact it switches every now and again...

I have not altered anything on BIOS, everything is on default Optimal settings (Using the AWARDBIOS). Is this suppose to happen?

settings setteings are on Balance so "I THINK" the CPU maximizeo maximise its Core speed when needed? Or maybe its just unstable and I need to set it up correctly on the BIOS?

Any help would be much apprechiated!!

It's speedstep doing it, nothing to worry about

When your CPU is not doing anything or not doing something that stresses it Speedstep downclocks your CPU to save energy. You can disable it if you want so that it runs at 3.3ghz constant.

Aaah interesting!

Initialy I thought it was my fault since I auto clocked my CPU using a Gigabyte software, which I uploaded using the utility disk that came with the Motherboard

I thought maybe it was too high and my system was not stable and or my cooling was not adequate enough to sustain those Speeds!

At the moment I am only using the stock CPU fan, I will be installing the EK supreme HF Block when my fittings arrive

UPDATE

I just noticed my CPU is shfting constantly? Is that also normal? The multiplier is doing it as well

Ye, it's normal. If you open CPUZ and then start prime95 or something that will stress your CPU you will see it jump up to maximum speed and when you stop it you will see it go right back down again.

Depending on what you are doing your core speed will vary, if you are not doing something that requires a lot of power then it will only use what it needs thats why it will keep going up and down. I have disabled speedstep in the BIOS so my 2500k is running at 4.5ghz constant.

I have disabled my SpeedStep (EIST)and also my c1e in the BIOS, but the Core speed is still shifting from 159.4MHz (x 16.0) to 3492.1MHz (x35.0)? My Processor power Management options have been adjusted to 100% on both minimum and maximum...

For now I will change back all setting son default optimal settings.

You probably need to disable Turbo Boost as well, I don't know what settings you have on the Gigabyte boards but if you have any power management profiles you might have to disable those as well.

Nothing wrong with how it is now though, you will still get full clock speed when using CPU intensive programs but if you would rather run at a constant clock speed rather give the above a try.

Okay I will try that also, not that I want a stable speed its just me being inquisitive. I built a very expensive system and I just want to check if everything is A okay.

I also have one little other issue about my entering into BIOS dilemma. The POST screen tells me to to hit DEL (DELETE) if I want to enter in to BIOS, however on occasions no matter how many times I press delete, the BIOS does not load up.

It seems its a hit and miss thing. I am using a USB (wireless) Keyboard that works (as I am typing now

) and is connected to a 3.0 port.

I had this issue from day one, at first I thought it may have to do with my Power options and CPU config, but now its seems more and more random... hmm

Not 100% sure about your keyboard but I think that USB keyboards take longer to start working than PS2 ones so it could just be taking longer to start working on boot and that's why sometimes it works and sometimes not.

I'm not 100% sure about that though.
