Idea thread / build log

It's time for my first waterloop. Even though i won't be building this rig for a while (probably late summer/autumn), you can't start early enough with thinking about color schemes, etc.. So basically i will update this once in a while whenever i have an idea for the build and ask for your opinions.
As my signature unfortunately shows i am currently being tortured by an AMD FX-4100, which massively bottlenecks my GPU, the H60 doesn't give me the temps to overclock well and the mainboard/RAM is kinda crappy as well.
Actually an update is completely unnecessary, i don't play any recent games, i am not hugely involved with editing, i might need it for compiling when i progress to the heavy stuff in school, but i doubt that as well. But i just love building rigs, i love overclocking, i love updating my stuff, i don't build a rig just to work, the building itself is an experience, right?
My current idea of the color scheme is a Gunmetal Grey case with white Rads and blue coolant.
So this is my current plan:

Hardware:
CPU:
Shortly after Haswell releases i will get an i7 4770k, i don't want to do any small upgrades anymore, the 4770k will last me for a while. I won't get one of the first batch because they will have some chipset issues afaik, also the price will drop significantly after a month or two.
GPU:
The GPU i will keep, i might put in a second one, but i didn't choose it for no reason. Say what you want about lower costs and convenience, the short reference 670 board looks like hell and especially with a waterblock it would look bloody awful.
RAM
On RAM i haven't really decided yet, but i won't choose anything under 2133Mhz, 8GB or 16GB i am not sure yet, i have no need for 16GB and i really just need the 2133MHz headroom for overclocking.
Mainboard:
i have no idea yet, i will choose that when they release, most likely something from MSI.
PSU:
The PSU i will keep as well, the AX750 can handle SLi and upgrading it would really just be a huge waste of money. I am most likely going to grab some blue sleeved cables, if i can't find any i might need to get into sleeving myself. At some point i will need to learn it anyways.
Case:
On the case i have done a lot of research and unfortunately you can barely find any that can hold a decent custom loop and don't cost a fortune. I have settled with the Switch810 Gunmetal for now, the 900d is not really in my budget and i don't want more than 2 rads atm either.
Storage:
SSDs and HDDs will stay as they are right now.

Cooling:

CPU Block:
XSPC Raystorm
GPU Block:
XSPC Razor (the 670FTW uses a reference 680 board, so it should fit)
Radiators:
360mm Alphacool nexXxos Monsta white
240mm Alphacool nexXxos Monsta white
Unfortunately Alphacool only offers the 360mm Radiator in white, i have been looking around quite a bit and the only shop i could find that offered a 240mm white Rad was frozencpu, which would mean that i would have to import it from america, which is absolutely not worth it. So i might need to get into painting it myself/look for someone in germany to paint it for me. If that is the case i have some more ideas, maybe two or three 2cm thick blue dashes on the white radiator.
Reservoir:
Definitely a tube res, but i haven't decided on which yet. A bay res would just look weird.
Pump:
D5
Fittings:
haven't looked into that yet
Tubing:
haven't looked into that either
Coolant:
haven't spent a lot of time on this either, but i will probably use blue coolant. i was wondering if there is slightly glowing coolant which works like those stickers you can buy which glow in the dark, that would look amazing.
Fans:
It will most likely be fans with a black frame and blue blade, i might get into coloring some Noctua NF-P12s since i already got one of them, but they are expensive and i'm not sure if it's worth the hassle. I took a look at the new fans from Silverstone, the AP123, but i am not sure if they are any good. I might just be uncreative and settle on SP120 QE, but that is the last option i would choose.

MOSFET and Chipset will most likely not get a block, doesn't seem worth it to me.

I am in a bit of a hurry atm, so forgive me if i forgot something.
Pictures and such will follow when i actually start building.

/update
i have been looking around for some coolant and i think i settled on Mayhems Aurora Tharsis Nebula Silver Blue. It's quite expensive, but i really like it, should be worth the money. I heard there are some problems lately with Mayhems, any reports?

sounds like a nice build man i look forward to seeing the colored noctua, as the fans are great just not great looking haha. i will be going for the alphcool rads myself only one monsta rad tho, an both 240's

there was a thread about coloring noctua fans around here latly, but i am not sure if it's worth it. i would spend 150€+ just on fans.

Yeah I seen that mate must take a fair bit of time an extra cash, an notua fans aint cheep either haha. I think am just gonna stick with just the two where I cant see them, an have the rest as the siverstone ap121 as I have a few of those already

I think i have settled on the fans.

Coolermaster Sickleflows
Their specs are quite impressive:
2000RPM max
19dB max
3,04mm H2O
and only 7€ per fan.
There are only two things i dislike about these fans, the power they need (4W) and the LEDs.
Experiences?

also i think i will scrap the radiator painting idea, i don't have the equipment for it, nor the knowledge or someone who could do it. So i might just let the 240mm in the bottom be black, would fit with the black PSU. The Top one will still stay white, i could split the rig in a white themed top and a black themed bottom.

Sickleflows are terrible fans. Don't get them.

They're incredibly loud, and if used on a fan controller they make a ridiculously loud noise.

Their specs look good indeed, but they're quite loud. I've heard a lot of negative comments about the Sickleflows...

now that is very disappointing. other than that i am looking at the scythe slip stream 1200RPM and the enermax Cluster/T.B. Silence.
i am open for other suggestions as well, not really a whole lot into the SP120s because every god damn rig uses them and i feel like even the QEs are rather loud. Noctua would be amazing, but the pricetag is heavy and i would have to paint them.
/edit
drop the slip streams, i doubt they are any good for radiators.

I run 3 SickleFlow fans, and I would avoid them. They are quite loud. You can quiet them down with a fan controller, but they DO make an awful arrrrrrrrr noise at certain speeds. I've had success shutting them up with a cheap Sunbeam controller, but when I tried to run them off another controller (NZXT Sentry Mix), they sounded awful. They do perform very well on full blast though, if you can tolerate the noise. And you won't find better static pressure at that price.

My $0.02CDN. :)

Enermax seem to be decent fans.

Silverstone AP121s and Bitfenix Spectre/Pros are good fans. Also Scythe GTs.

Not sure about the Slip Streams.

how about the silverstone air penetrators? i have mine runnin at 7v an there very quiet

i took a look at them because i liked the AP123 because it fits my idea of a good fan color scheme, unfortunately they are rather expensive as well. i can nearly get noctuas for that price. well, i guess quality is worth the price.

Yeah mate quality is worth the price haha, there both expensive but worth it in my books

i currently favor the bitfenix spectre pro whites, just looking at the specs they are about even, the bitfenix looks better and the price is significantly better. i am not sure if i am willing to pay for 150€ for fans if they are not a whole lot better than 10 fans for 90€.
/edit
the white ones with LEDs could be cool as well, it's not the terrible looking kind of LED fan.

Any feedback on the new colorscheme idea i mentioned earlier? black bottom rad white top rad?

Yes, finally! :)

Not sure about the Slip Streams.

I have the Spectre Pro, and while it's not exactly a high performance fan, it is very quiet
(especially when undervolted) and none of mine (I have 13, 9 x 140 and 4 x 120) show any
annoying bearing or motor noises on any voltage.

And of course, the Gentle Typhoons seem to be an excellent choice from everything I've
heard and read (though I've never had one myself). Contrary to most other fans in their rpm
range, the have a dual ball bearing construction, and they seem to be excellently balanced
(=> low vibrations) and undervolt fantastically.

Cant' comment on the AP's and the Enermax fans, especially on a radiator.

i would love some gentle typhoons if they weren't grey. in black and blue i would buy them. god damn noctua effect.

Well, i guess it's either gonna be the spectre pro white or the spectre pro white/blue LED.
Moving on to coolant. Obviously the Mayhems aurora tharsis nebula silver blue looks wicked, but unfortunately afaik you need to change it very often. i don't want to drain my rig every 2 weeks. so it's most likely just gonna be xspc blue coolant in xspc UV tubing.

Gary's NZXSPC Build Log has him painting his GT's. (link).

EDIT: Ninja'd

And yes Aurora is not recommended for long term use, not even by Mayhems themselves.
