i7 Temps :/

Just checking the temps with my new i7, and this is what I was presented with...

I'm pretty sure it's meant to be running a lot cooler than that. I'm using a Titan Fenrir V2 cooler. I set the fan speed to about 1600RPM usually, but I just turned it up to2190RPM to see if it makes any difference.

Speedstep is on btw.

That is definitely hot. With speedstep on a D0, and the Fenrir isn't awful either, you shouldn't see much above mid 35ish.

Although if you live near where I do, today is blazingly hot. Got a decent case?

ATCS 840. I just pulled the cooler off to find that I really hadn't put enough thermal paste on the CPU. It wasn't even covering the whole area, let alone getting in the gaps of the heatpipes. I put more on, but I ran out, so I'm hoping it will be enough. I will buy some more paste but I want to overclock it now lol

Yeah I know lol. I'll do it in a minute. Temps are the same no matter what clock speed it is. There is no difference between 12x multi and 21x multi lol

Just OC'd to 4ghz using the Gigabyte PDF. I started intel burn test but Core Temp jumped from 55 degrees average to 85 degrees average in a matter of seconds. When I stopped the burn test, the temps literally dropped to 55 a split second after. Is this reading properly? I'm pretty sure there aren't many materials that can lose heat that quickly.

Just ran intel burn test, maximum settings with full 8 threads and Core Temp said two of the cores were 228 degrees. Whereas Speedfan said 75. Speedfan was always about 10 to 15 degrees cooler than Core Temp, I don't know which one to trust. I will do some Prime95 testing and see if it's stable. It seems to be at the moment.

Was that 228 degrees a typo? I sincerely hope so! If not, I'd preferentially trust speedfan as 228C would surely fry your cpu no?

Try using OCCT for stress testing and measuring temps. If that doesn't show anything near that high then it's probably a core temp bug of some kind

I've got an even better one for you. Considering the clock speed it thinks I'm running, check out those temps!

I laughed when I saw it!

WHAAAAAAT? Clearly Core Temp is messing up for some reason, in which case you'll have to rely on something else. My one seems to be running fine but is a slightly older version (0.99.5.27). Want me to send you it to see if it makes any difference?

Real Temp is a good prog too for temps. And yes CPU temps can drop very rapidly once the load is off. And multiplier and speed I've found doesn't effect temps that much only the vcore does.

I've dropped the V-Core to 1.36 at 4GHz. Temps still a bit high really so I'm going to get some more thermal paste tomorrow as I think there isn't enough on the cooler. Either that or I've got a gay cooler where the direct touch parts don't actually touch.

Used OCCT and it said the temps jumped from 55 degrees to 100 in 3 seconds. Is this right? It seems almost implausible to be to jump that far that quickly.

And yes rune, that would be nice. send it to: 8removed ;)*

Right, tested it this morning and the temps are about ten degrees cooler all round. I think the thermal paste is now setting in. Still going to redo it when I get some more because I don't think there is enough to fill the gaps. OCCT stopped saying the temps were 100 degrees, but Speedfan said they were hovering at 75 on 100% load. I don't know which one to trust lol

And thanks Rune!

Aye HWmonitor is what I use too its bang on. you should be expecting idles of about 45ish tbh dude. Just remember Max lod should never go above 80. If it does knock the clock back and drop the volts till you get better cooling.

Yeah the temps have dropped again. Now load at 75. The hottest core idles at 50 and the coolest core idles at 43 lol.
