Hi guys,

Over 2 years ago I have built a custom rig on a fair budget. Around 3-4 months ago, one of my G-Skill snipers (4gb) sticks died. I am looking to add more RAM to my rig very soon. I saw that the hyperx fury 8gb is very cheap right now on amazon and was wondering whether I would be able to fit them in while having the over 4gb g-skill sniper work.

The G-Skill sniper stick that I have in my rig right now runs at 1600hz and the hyperx fury's run at 1866hz.

Motherboard; MSI z97

Will I be able to make both, the g-skill sniper (4gb) and the hyperx fury (2x 4gb) run within my rig?

Thanks in advance! :)

Yes they will work together, however be aware that your system will run at the lower rated speed of the combination. The speed rating is not what the memory "Does" run at, but the speed it is rated "Up to". Personally I am not a fan of running unmatched RAM due to issues that can be caused through different speeds and latency timings.

It's probably advisable to run them at the worst latency and speed from each kit. If one is 1600 9-9-9-24 and the other 1866 10-11-11-30 (for example) then running both sticks at 1600 10-11-11-30 should theoretically be stable. But if they've never been tested and 'rated' together there is no guarantee of that.

Really you should just look to sell whats left of your broken kit and then get a new complete kit. (or RMA it, doesn't your kit have a lifetime warranty?)

Thanks for the replies :)

The g-skill snipers are more expensive and I cant find a single 4gb stick anywhere, at least for a good price. Im just gonna order the fury and keep the 4gb stick as backup :D

Thats a really reasonable thing to do!
