I Need Every Peripheral

Hey all,

I can't find the correct area to post this, but I'm in need of a mouse, keyboard and headset.

I don't know where to start, I've only ever used just your basic mouse/keyboard in the past and the wired, optical mouse was perfect tbh, nice and light, good responsiveness. Not to bulky. Perfect.

They will be for gaming, ArmA 3 and BF4 at the moment, any personal favorites round here, for me to check out?

IF there are any speakers, you could recommend me, just it's a pain in the bum at night when people go to bed and you've got to turn the volume right down!

I used to have Creative 5.1 back in the BF2 days, then I used Sony 5.1 Home Theatre, then just moved to a Logitech headset.

Any recommendations is appreciated.

Edit: Do joysticks still get made? If so you can recommend them, I may look into one just for piloting in ArmA 3/BF4.

For multiplayer stuff mate, as you'll be using a mic, i'd very much stick with a headset or headphones otherwise you're going to start annoying your fellow gamers (and team-mates) with sound bleed-through.

Good point, I'll need something with a good mic attached then.

Also, for anything that lights up, ideally green. Got a Gigabyte G1. Sniper M5, trying to run a green theme through the rig. Just want it built though before I buy separate cables, lighting etc.

You forgot one important thing; What's your budget?

Oops sorry, erm it doesn't really matter tbh.

I would say though, I've seen £250 keyboards and that is way to much for a keyboard, £150 is enough for one of them. It really just depends, if the quality is there and it's worth it then I guess the price tag is justifiable.

MY personal experiences have led me to use these are my go-to recommendations for peripherals

QPad MK85 Pro Keyboard (your choice of switch colour of course)
Roccat Kone Mouse
AKG K702 Headphones
Antlion Modmic v1 Mic for headphones

I just ordered a K70 and M65 and for a good headset I can recommend my Sennies in my sig good audio and mic I use for bf3 and it's great

I agree with SuB. Roccat have awesome mice and you can set them to illuminate any colour you like. For you, I'd recommend the XTD which is one of their newer higher-end mice:

Don't really have much experience with mechanical keyboard. I was personally going to go for a Leopold 500R or Ducky Zero because they are relatively cheap. If you have the money though, it's cool to have on of the higher-end ones. Don't buy Razer though, even if they have fancy green LED lights.

Also heard good things about that Modmic, which you can attach to any headphones and I agree that a proper pair of headphones is usually better than a gaming headset.

Cheers lad I'll check them all out.

These have good bass in the headphones? Sound engine is awesome in Battlefield so I want something to show it really well.

the audio technical th 700x ithink they are are supposed to be really good for BF Xfactor and LVLCAP use them and say they are great and just pair them up with a mic and you're away

They are very snappy/punchy on the bass and not muddy. The best way to explain it is that they demand your attention more than drowning you in faux bass. Where they excel is in their accuracy of high/mid positional stuff. When you hear a shot in bf3, you'll know what it was and what direction it was coming from pretty easily. I love them mate. Expensive but some of the best 'audio whore' cans available.

They don't screw with the sound field BF3 creates (which is pretty good on it's own) I find a lot of the 5.1/7.1 headsets try and screw with this too much and it takes aware more than it adds.

I spent hours trawling around for headphone advice and write ups. I'll try and find the link which had a pretty comprehensive write-up on them all. But certainly If you like bf3, I can't recommend the AKG's highly enough.

P.S. If you're getting decent cans, get an Essence STX it makes the world of difference.

i have a mionix naos 8200 and i cant recommend it enough, really comfortable fully customisable lighting two thumb buttons, a really good sensor soft touch rubberized and did i mention its really comfortable :P

Cheers, just been looking at the Essence STX after seeing the other dude asking about sound cards after his Creative X-Fi died.

Possibly buy some more stuff this weekend for the rig!

Edit: Going to Google them headphones now, I'll check everything out properly but bit busy in work. :(

yeah i did the same, lots of standard reviews still can't pinpoint the article i found about gaming with them though.

Edit: FOUND IT!

Just to pull his comments out of the page (it's a long thread)

Remember how I felt the AD700 did something to me? How it completely change my view on headphones and Dolby Headphone? Well, I got that same feeling again with the K701. In fact, I felt like god had given me the secret to just out right smite my enemies with the hammer of justice. The K701 to me, is pure, unadulterated, SMACKDOWN inducing OWNAGE. The very first time I used them (Modern Warfare 2), I went 2 straight 25-0 games in Free For All. I mean, holy smokes. The K701 was like wearing x-ray vision goggles for my ears. Depth, width, imaging, complete detail retrieval... it had it all. These to me, are the very vision of the perfect gaming headphone (with Dolby Headphone). I'd still place the overall positioning behind the DT770 Pro 80, and AD700, but it's on par with the HD598. We're talking about them being maybe a 9.9 instead of a 10 (which is what the 770s and AD700s are to me). Those two have NOTHING on the clarity and detail-whoring the K701 has. The bass is light, but present enough for it not to be anywhere near a complaint for me. It just works. You want my top pick for a purely godlike hardcore gaming headphone? The K70x is it. Now if only they were easy to drive. Believe it or not, the Mixamp does a good job driving the K70x, as long as you don't mix in voice chat whatsoever. Talking about leaving the game/voice balance completely on the game side. Once you nudge the balance away from game, the volume takes a steep dive, and you will note how badly the things need an amp.

Now I already know how volume =/= driving force, but for gaming with dolby headphone, you WON'T think about that or notice. Trust me, the Mixamp is enough for the K701 if again, you don't add voice chat. If you do, you WILL need to attach an amp to the Mixamp's headphone out, just to juice the K70x and voice chat audio. Yes, they do scale with good amping, but for the purpose of gaming, I don't deem it necessary, asides from when you're in need of voice chat.

Comfort-wise, quite polarizing. A lot of people have issue with the headband's bumps. I won't lie, they take getting used to. However, once you've beared with it enough, your head will get desensitized by that particular sensation. The bumps no longer affect me in the least. I find them decent to good. My main complaint now is that I wish the headband extended just a little more. I have to fully extend them to fit me properly, and it's quite noticeably felt, though it's not a real discomfort.

Fun: 6/10 (Decent. There is SOME fullness to the old K701, though it is ultimately a sterile, and highly analytical headphone unless paired up with a very warm amp.)

Competitve: 10/10 (Basically Perfection. The meaning of God-mode is strong with this one. If you want a headphone to pick apart details from everything arround you, this one is pretty hard to pass up.)

Comfort: 7/10 (Good. The bumps may be a factor for a lot of people.)

The voice stuff is about an external thing he uses for consoles, on PC this is a none issue (I can attest to that). These with a modmic will have your ears thanking you ;)

Thanks SuB. :)

Thats something to consider in comfort. Are their any headphones that are comfortable to wear for hours? I use Dr. Dre Beats for music on the go, they are comfortable but if you wear them for a while then take them off hear your ears "Oooowww" and they ache for a while. Same used to happen with the logitechs I used to use.

Oo i feel sorry for you for buying those.

I know it says about comfort on there as well but again, I've never had an issue with them and often forget they are there entirely (we're talking 10+ hour gaming sessions)

Thanks SuB. :)

lol...

I agree with pretty much everything so far regarding sound, so I'm not going to get into that - just listen to SuB.
Do be aware though - mod-mics are hard to get, and as said earlier, you'll annoy everyone else if you don't use a fairly decent lapel-mic, or a half decent directional mic. At the moment, I even switch to a cheapo wireless headset if I'm gaming with other people, because the monitor mountable mic I have just picks up everything.

As for the keyboard, with a budget like yours, you'll definitely want mechanical. You need to have a search and read up about switches before making your decision. I agree with SuB that reds are better for gaming, but I personally couldn't type very well at all on my old reds. On the other hand, on my blues now, I absolutely love it for typing, but after long gaming sessions, my hand does start to ache a little, as it does require more effort than you're used to to press down the keys. Look at blacks and browns, and try to have a go with one - although this isn't the easiest thing to do in this country, as we don't have massive open electronic stores that allow you to go and have a go.

Mouse-wise - obviously depends on budget, don't go wireless though. I personally love my M60, so I would recommend one of the M60/M65 (any of the ones that have the same basic shape of the M60). Again though, ideally this is something you want to try before buying.

Just my 2p

i used to have a Roccat Arvo + Kone+ and found it just didnt handle the kind of hammering i used to give it!

Switched it up to Corsair K70 and M65 and i wish i had gone for this setup before, the keyboard has red switches which i think is fine for gaming but i seem to make alot mistakes when typing up reports and things so they might not be suitable for lots of typing but when im gaming they are pretty awesome. M65 is a awesome mouse feels alot more comfortable in my hand than the Roccat and the build quality is alot more refined!

Headphones, ive got the Audio Techinca M50's for music and gaming they are great, they are very natural sounding and little tweaking on a equaliser you can get the perfect sound i wouldnt change them for anything else at the moment, ive also read good things about the mod mic, ive been trying to get a hold of one for a while but maybe that's me not trying hard enough

all these exceed your budget but they are all worth the money, im sure the others will expand on it.
