I need a keyboard...

hey Guys,

So my current keyboard is an old HP keyboard which i hate. I could do with an upgrade. It needs to be very quite and relatively cheap so no mechanical key switches here please :D. When i say relatively cheap, under £70. Backlighting would be a bonus, too!

why don't you want to spend a few more bucks and get a mechanical? it really is worth it imo

best value mechanical is probably the steelseries 6Gv2 or Coolermaster quickfire rapid. But if you get the chance you should see which switches you like the feel of the most

you can get a mechanical keyboard for 70 pounds. steelseries 6gv2 is pretty cheap. i myself want to get a CM Storm Quickfire TK Blue, that one isn't too expensive either.

I'm not a huge fan of mechanical keyboards. I like the clicking for typing but it's annoying when gaming. Sure you can put dampeners on them but it kind of defeats the point.

I've had an Alienware Tactx (Logitech thing) for years and it's as good as gold. Backlighting on it is pretty cool too.

Steelseries Apex boards should be coming soon; I for one am waiting for em'

The entire point is that i make youtube videos and i need a super quiet keyboard that the mic wont pick up. Mechanicals, even the quiet ones are still bloody loud compared to membrane. I need some advice on membrane keyboards. Sorry i shoulda been more specific.

i'm using a tTesports challenger (THE NORMAL ONE, the ultimate feels fucking horrible). it uses membranes, it's rather quiet and still has a nice feeling to it. pretty cheap as well, 40€ or something like that.

The Challenger looks pretty good. What is that bit that sticks out in the top left for?

it's a fan, for cooling your hands. yes, a fan. see those rubber knobs on the top left and top right? underneath that is a socket for that fan.

but definitely if you get one, get the normal version, not the pro or the ultimate.
they may light up buy they feel cheap as heck, they use different membranes and keys.

With a fan so small, surely that's pointless?

Anyway, overall. I'm likely to be getting the TactX. I love its looks. One thing that i must ask about it though, how loud is it?

you cant hear it. i don't use it really, you can store it in a slot on the back of the keyboard.

Have you looked at the logitech stuff? They make some nice keyboards.

Yeah i have. I like some of their stuff like the illuminated keyboard but it seems pretty expensive for what you get. I'd like to add something else to the list of what i would like which is a wrist rest.

Been looking at the cyborg V7 which looks pretty cool and i think meets all the criteria :P

How loud is your alienware keyboard? :D I love the look of it and im interested in getting it!

It's very quiet.

Edit. The only one tiny complaint I could possibly bring up is that the keys are quite stiff to begin with and take a couple of weeks to settle in. That's pretty much just because it was new.

For backlighting you won't beat it given that it runs RGB LEDs that can be customised into thousands of colours. About the best I've seen was a Saitek that could go either blue red or purple.

The quality is as you would expect from anything Dell or Alienware make. Very solid.
