I can't stand Ebay.

mate i aint out for gettin top cash i like avf's a hell of a lot cause ive saved hundreds and hundreds using it and i like to pass on the same deal to other ppl money isnt everything and it isnt all about makin a profit or more than its worth cause ebay prices really arent relevant cause there inflated simple as and avf's isnt like that there is just a going price that is a little below ebay prices without all the fee's and hassle of operating with them and a trader at the same time as its all direct between the seller and buyer on avf's

and no i havent been spoiled i aint into ripping ppl off or overcharging i would happily pass my old ram off for £50 again even tho on ebay i would easily get twice it i dont even think there is any even up there so that would 'demand' an ever bigger premuim but i wont im cool with selling for what i got it for

and as for its not fine to ignore than but in no way does that justify you being rude back to them its a very childish way to react when you know being civil would prevent any problems, if they come back and insult u again by all means put them in there place but just one silly offer and u get all crappy over it

and dude can you try and sort all the double posting? cause you can sort it all out with using the edit button on your original post or the button beside the 'reply with quote' that will let you comment multiple posts in one :)

I suppose that is subject to opinion and your lifestyle. If I was in a position to give something away I would give something away. If I wasn't and had to sell stuff? Then I want what it is worth. That's a philosophy I have always lived by. Charity begins at home and so on. I wasn't a spoiled child and had to work hard for what I had and have now. Things that I know I will lose out on I simply don't sell or give away, that way I never lose. The parts I sold recently on the cheap were leftover items from work I have done for people on computers. They owed me some time and I worked out what that time would have cost. In the end the 8600GTS went for a tenner less than they sell for and the ram? Well that was given to me as a gift and never worked properly.

I don't know what your situation is financially and nor is it any of my business. I also don't know how old you are but if you can afford to fold and pay the leccy for it and also replace any hardware that may fail because of it? fair play. I am not in that position nor am I in one to give stuff away for peanuts. As I said, if I can afford to give stuff away I literally will.

You have been spoiled then dude. The entire population of the UK is spoiled. We get DVD players for £15 that some poor sod has put together for about 2p a week and so on. It's apparently called capitalism, I think it's just greed and being spoiled. Back in the 70s a wooden shelled colour TV would cost nigh on a grand. Why? because we didn't have poor countries throwing them together so we could be spoiled. Now though that has all changed.

Remember what PCs cost when they first came into the mainstream? I remember when a 32mb hard drive cost about £950. So yes, we are spoiled, very spoiled.

As for the prices I want for stuff? well it was quite simple really. The 8600GTS came about for some work I did on a PC (putting in a 8800GTX and spending the entire day putting on Vista) for that day I decided £15 would be OK. So I wanted £15 for it. Had I been in a better position? I would have gave it away here. But sadly with the responsibilities I have it wasn't possible for me to give it away as the bills don't pay themselves and never stop.

Insulting some one is not civil. Maybe I didn't realise that selling things on AVF meant being mugged off? If I sell something on Ebay for example (which tbh I hardly ever do) and point things out in the auction and put a BIN price on that's firm then it would be really silly to try and insult me with a pathetic offer. See also : the first post in this thread.

I don't like wasting my time on haggling and pissing around dude. That's just me, those are my terms. When I sell things I price them fairly as you have probably noticed. The ram was listed at 1/3 of its selling price and only needed a fiver spent to get it back and have it replaced with free return shipping. I just couldn't be bothered with it.

Only because you can afford to correct? If it was that or not paying your leccy bill and being cut off you would be far less happy about it. If it meant you weren't going to eat for a couple of days then again, you wouldn't have a choice.

If the offer was even so much as reasonable (IE say, £25, half of what it would go for on Ebay shipped)? then fine. The offer however was insulting. What was even more insulting was the way it was put to me by a moderator and then rammed down my throat that I had to at least consider it. That's called bullying dude and don't even go there on that.

I wouldn't have reacted in the way that I did had I not sat down and read all of their T&C (I do things like that see) and realised that they really push people around. The place is just ridiculous IMO (but then that is merely my opinion and one I am entitled to yes?).

Look. Without turning this into something insulting let me explain something to you. I have not sat here and asked you to check your spelling, punctuate, capitalise and god knows what else. So please don't patronise me.

I accept you for who you are and thus sit and read what you have to say.

not really but i aint out for makin money its not everything as long as bills get paid then i dont have to live it up and just sell my things on for what i paid for them/bit less cause of it being 3rd hand

you do concider it by refusing it

the place is great to trade and is quite safe for the most part and there are a lot of very experienced traders and i have had many dealings with numerous members along the way and would again and they do like me

im not tryin to insult im just saying all the double posting can be annoying as there is no need when you have tools there so you dont have to

As I said in the folding convo, good on you. I really respect folding and the lengths people will go to over it. But that would be something for me that means spending money on giving, something I can't do. I'm glad you seem to be in a pretty comfortable position tbh. That's cool.

My feelings on AVF have come about from spending a good 15 years on internet forums. I don't do bullying and I don't even really like moderation. However, I do understand rules and am happy to live by them (see this place !) if they are fair. What AVF do is far from fair. If I didn't agree to their T&C then to be frank I wouldn't have even advertised there. What I wasn't expecting was a load of ban happy moderators going around bullying people and talking to them like crap. The internet is a place where you have to be careful on how you go about it. It is very very simple to take things out of context or quickly think that you are above and beyond others. I try to take humility into account and treat every one as equal. Therefore I would not try and act in a way on the internet that could not be carried out in the real world. Trying to force people into selling things your way is just unacceptable to me. And there are plenty of choices and plenty of places to sell things fairly.

No, I don't particularly like Ebay or their rules but thankfully over the past six months their whole "law unto ourselves" attitude has been slapped into line by trading standards. Paypal have too. They bent the rules as much as possible because at the time there were no rules in place to regulate what they did. People get rich all the time by doing things like they do and before long the govt steps in and regulates it to make it fair and safe for the people who use it. Take note of the big hoo har over fake goods being sold on Ebay and how they have been forced into doing everything in their powers to stop it. Where as before they simply didn't care as they were being paid.

See also Microsoft, who for years and years flaunted the law to make money. The laws changed and they were fined, but sadly the fines did not match up to the money they were making so they simply paid them and got on with it. And again that changed and finally the laws and rules have changed. Remember the big one about them not including a browser in Windows 7? that was because you could not completely remove IE from any OS before. That is foul of the law, that has now been changed. Also, they were forced into making one serial for all with 7 where as before they could seperate them and charge more for certain serials. See XP corporate and so on.

The reason that came about was because there was retail version of Vista and 7 and OEM ones (SLIC manu). What was happening was people were buying a license with a new machine and not getting a physical copy of Windows. At which point they would download one only to find it rejected their serial. And so on and so on.

I am perfectly aware that double posting can be annoying. TBH I should not have to explain why it happens but if you would like I will. I use a lot of forums and I don't have time to sit here and mash posts into one just to make some one else happy. However with that token I also don't sit here and judge others for not being able to put together a coherrant well spelled paragraph, so at points I turn blue reading peoples posts. Not specifically yours, but many of the forums I go to. I don't judge people based on what I see on a forum page.

The only way to really roll with a forum is either not to judge and accept people for who they are (unless they're complete knobs, then you ban them) or just sit back and take people how they come. I'm not perfect, far from it and never profess to be.

OT - wow this AlienALX guy really has some good English skills. I salute you! 631 posts since Jun 2010?:) Awesome active member tbh.

I use Craigslist now and it's flawless! Local deals, cash in my hand, no shipping, no fees, CRAIGSLIST 4 LYF!

Yeah we have something like that here Frag called Gumtree.

Sadly British people can be pretty vicious and spiteful and we had a spate of bogus buyers turning up and stabbing people before running off with their hard earned cash.

We've got something called marktplaats (direct translation: marketplace) that does the job pretty well. There's a lot of dumb people on there who pay €80 for something that's worth €60. I like it, haha.

Haha bought a cylinder vac from Ebay and within 20 secs of using it it caught fire.

Only cost £22, this is going to be fun. Gonna phone trading standards.
