I can't stand Ebay.

I buy a lot from Ebay and never have issues. I've got 83 positives from buying.

Well recently money has become an issue so I decided to sell a few things, cheap.

I listed a hardly used 8600 GTS for £17.50 knowing they go for £25 all day long.

I listed a couple of ram sticks that are faulty knowing Corsair will replace them and they're worth £48.99 for £17.50.

I really hate selling things but right now I'm in such a jam that the money will make a big difference.

So yeah, where was I? well firstly I had a best offer on the ram for £16. 1/3 of what it is worth. Why I didn't just pay the bloody fiver to send it to Corsair I don't know.

Any way, this dude sends me this.

Hi, reg ebay 8600gts & faulty corsair ram, can offer a buy it now of £30 inc recorded delivery for both items, genuine offer. Thanks.

I then reply.

OK. Well I will reduce both BIN to £15. Up to you from there.

Now to me that is a counter offer. He could clearly see I had not changed the shipping to free because it was still there. So then I get this.

hi,I,ve brought both items, you just to change postage, so its £30 in total inc recorded delivery. Thanks.

Am I missing something here? Where in the name of f**k did I agree to send them free?

I know where this is heading, and I'm REALLY pissed off. God I hate selling to morons on Ebay.

All I did there was counter offer him. Now he wants me to send it free? FFS, time I take out the shipping and Ebay fees I will be left with about £20. What a knob.

dont send it free mate you never discussed shippin fee's just knock like a £1 off it and e like no mate thats £30 + whatever it was -£1

Yeah I wouldn't send it free either dude. It's worth more than that especially when delivery will be probably ~£8 or so for the weight. Just reply, saying you never agreed to sell so you're not letting it go at that price. He doesn't really have a leg to stand on.

Well I sent him a very stern reply last night basically saying I can't and won't send it without the shipping being paid. I think he then realised what had happened (some people get all excited when they think they have pulled a fast one) and he said to relist them. He even offered the fees.

Only problem is I can either say I have been paid and lose £4 in Ebay fees (erm, nah) or strike them as unpaid and go through all the pulava of getting them relisted without paying. In the end I said £35 all in and he agreed.

Whatever, I just can't deal with the stress. Can't wait until they're paid for and out of the door tbh.

I absolutely hate eBay. After being screwed over for $500 on a sale, having my 10 year old account close, my PayPal account closed, and $500 unpaid account put on my credit report, i'm done with all of it.

What's the kicker? All of it was PayPal's fault, and they didn't want to incur their $500 fkup and put it on me..... Eh, I get mad talking about it.

Yeah, there are so many stories like yours FragTek that I just avoid. I've never sold on there, and never plan to, not least because the fees can be pretty large on some things.

I usually sell all my kit via forums/websites or through friends and relatives.

dont use ebay or paypal anymore as has been said they are craptastic, better off selling on forums/websites/etc much easier and no fee's

i use forums myself got over 60 deals done on avf's

Oh you mean the forums ran by Nazis? no thanks.

I joined there once about a year back. Listed some items for sale (way below normal selling price as usual)

One of the items was a WD Raptor 74gd. I had had it for about a month and didn't use it (they don't work so well under Vista and I didn't want to go back to XP).

Standard selling price everywhere was £45 + del. It also had 8 months of warranty left on it. I stated prices are firm so no offers please, I have already gone as low as I am prepared to

Does that sound fair to you? Good. My item, my terms. It's called the law.

So then this mod comes along (obvious dealer) and offers me £15 . Now look, I know in the U.K second hand items are apparently worth absolutely nothing but that was just an insult. It was even more insulting because I had already pointed out my terms in bold. So I simply replied.

Hahahahahahaha !

My thread was closed and I got banned. I then got a threatening email from one of the mods telling me that I must consider any offer given to me. So in other words they were trying to bully me into selling my stuff for next to nothing.

I then got a good few threats through email from other mods who all decided to jump in. Pathetic? I think so. Maybe they should go down to the local mall and apply to be mall cops. I've got no time for keyboard warrior gestapo.

there is a trading part on here but there is certain criteria you have to go through to get accepted on it

TBH mate and I mean this with the utmost respect - Ebay is the place to get a good fair price for your stuff. Millions of people look on there and there are set going rates for stuff.. Fair prices IMO and that's why I buy there. If I was to sell here however? Well look, the way I see it is that we are among friends here. So I would charge mate's rates. I wouldn't try and earn out of people I know because that sucks so I would either give it away or take very little for it.. If I was in a position to. Sadly right now I am not...

I hope that makes sense :)

Infact going back to AVF. I'm pretty sure that some of their terms are illegal. IE - if you are selling something here you can not list it anywhere else and must close the sale before doing so. See, Ebay tried that too. A while back if you listed something on there you had no option but to let the auction run until it was finished, tied into selling there.

I noticed last week that you now have an option to immediately close the listing with no obligation. All you lose is the listing fee.

I'm pretty sure no one would bother going after AVF because they don't make any money out of the sales, but forcing some one into all that horse crap is most probably foul of the law.

i cant stand ebay and would never willingly put anything up there cause ebay have u by the nuts then charge you hell for it and yeah there are ppl like that on avf's all you reply to us no thanks and get on with it you dont have to accept anyones offer unless its the asking price that they meet and avf's isnt for makin profit and if a small thing like one silly offer causes u 2 go like that maybe you would be better off not going on avf's cause i throw out silly offers myself for ppl's gear they cant get shifted no insult intended but no one wants it and im only silling to pay a certain amount and ive bought raptors on there and the going rate for the past year and a half has been about £35

all i can say is good things about avf's there are a hell of a lot of ppl on there like myself that are out for a bargin as its both good for the buyer and the seller as there are no fee's what so ever

thats just common sence mate and there is no law to prevent that its to stop confusion and deals gettin messed up by things gettin bought on other places to coincide the rule of 'first offer for askin price takes the item' cause of someone lists it somewhere else and someone offers askin on avf's and they get the same money on another site and by the rules on avf's that person should get the item and if not they shouldnt be allowed to trade on avf's

The final charge on Ebay is about 8% IIRC. Ever been to an auction house? They charge you about 20% min. On Ebay by the time you are done you will end up paying out about 11% (3% Paypal and 8% Ebay charge). But the thing is you are advertising to millions of people. For example in June of 08 I got a complete bogey green Alienware for £280. It was brand new in the box, cancelled order. Spec was perfectly decent and with a decent GPU thrown in it owed me less than £400. New it was worth about a grand. Any way, I got a black ALX chassis and I wanted to sell the green one. On ebay I got £130 which was right on the going rate. On AVF you would have been lucky to get £50.

As for Paypal? those bastards saved my life. My final months in the USA were full of turmoil. I crashed my car and cracked two vertibrae and had no medical insurance. So I basically walked around for three months with a messed up spine and had to repair the car so I could sell it and come home. At the time my family agreed to send me the cost of living (I was living with a mate FOC but I needed food and car ins). First they started sending me bank transfers. £35 a pop plus a percentage. Paypal? they took 3%. So as you can see, that was pretty marvellous and made the difference between me actually eating.

Well sorry dude, but when some one insults me I won't reply politely. They were trying to take the piss.

As for the going price for Raptors?

Really? Look closer.

Any way, you say the going rate has been £35? So then in that case me saying £30 no offers please is perfectly fair yes?

So again, Ebay will get you top dollar for your stuff. Sure there is some hassle involved but tbh there are ways of avoiding that hassle. With really expensive items refuse Paypal and take cash on collection or a bank transfer.

Whoops missed the last part. AVF might be a good place to buy and pull down peoples pants but you'd be a mug to throw things away for nothing. I would rather keep the stuff and not lose anything.

still them takin 11% of your money is shocking mate simple as avf's is free and there are thousands of members out there and i will be using it for years and years and ive got some stupid bargins on there the ram in my old pc OCZ flex II 1150mhz when i got it it was going for £150 on ebay at least with it being really fast having the watercooling capabilities and i paid £50 for it and it wasnt me makin a silly offer thats all the guy wanted for it (and its super rare stuff these days) and like us he isnt out there to over change like ppl do on ebay cause of the fee's they get hit with avf's is all about only sellin old kit you dont want and not out to make a profit pass it onto fellow ppl who want something at a really great price with a super fast sale

and as for your reply to the offer you dont have to be rude back if everyone acted the way u did this world be in an even worse state than it already is it really takes ZERO effort to thanks for the offer but that is a 3rd of what i wanted for it and leave it at that, i dont mean this as an insult but ive came across many new traders on there that have exactly the same reaction and aggressive stance strait off the bat and to be honest the website is far better off without it and im glad when traders like that get the boot makes life better for the rest of us good traders

Dude. If I am going to sell stuff on Ebay I want top money for it. It's as simple as that really. I'm pretty sure if you were selling on there you would first do your research and charge top money for it also.

I think on the next "what things are worth" part you are missing my logic completely. When I lived in the USA (for over a decade) second hand things sold for about 2/3 of what you paid for them MINIMUM. Nobody was under the illusion that they were going to get them for about 1/3 of what they are worth (like here for example, that's how those shark companys like cash converters operate).

You may well have been spoiled into thinking that second hand items are worth bugger all but I am not. Also, you have mentioned buying at those prices. Would you also say you would be willing to sell at those prices? Of course you bloody wouldn't. The term over charge does not exist. Selling things comes down to what you can get and how much they are worth. By your logic nothing on Ebay should sell correct? because people are over charging. Nah, people are charging a set going rate and Ebay is the most popular and successful marketplace in the world. I feel that £100+ is a fair price to pay for an Alienware chassis for example. How do I know that? because that is how much they sell for at a minimum on Ebay. The problem *I* have with Ebay isn't strictly Ebay it's piss takers who want things for free.

If I advertised a car for £4k I would probably take say, £100 less. Infact no, I would advertise it for a fair price depending on condition and put no offers. If some one could not read and came to my house and took the piss? I would have a problem with that.

It's called not being a mug dude. Try it, the yanks are bloody brilliant at it.

So it's perfectly fine to just ignore what people say and go ahead and offend them yes?

Dude. If some one said "would you like me to shove my willy up your bum" and you said no and they went ahead and did it any way would you be annoyed?

It's called respect. When you explain YOUR position and some one blatantly ignores it and takes the piss then I take issue with that.
