Huge problem with optical drives!!!

Hello OC3D-members,

Not too long ago I had a problem with my optical drives.

They dissapeard from "my computer", and I couldn't read/write CD's and/or DVD's.

Even the virtual ones from daemon tools were gone!

So I looked in my device manager and they were still there, but I got an error (code 41).

I tried a lot, like deleting something in regedit (upperclassfilter), but when I did this, the folder in which upperclassfilter was, and many other folders, were gone! I tried uninstalling the drives from device manager and I rebooted, but even that didn't work!

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

have you checked to see if the physical optical drives show up in the BIOS? that could help narrow down the troubleshooting.

try this "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060" & "http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems"

not sure if it will help, sounds like its just an automated registy fix that you've already tryied but it might work. thats really all i've got sorry i can't be more helpful. but let me know if the microsoft thing does anything?

Going to test it now,

BTW the drives are shown in the BIOS

That didn't do it

Might be worth reinstalling a fresh copy of Windows if it comes to it. Seeing as they are seen in Device Manager but not in explorer suggests that there's a registry issue, but loads of things can go wrong with that
