How often do you get "the itch"

I'm also a C++ programmer (hobbyist, I'm taking a Python class in high school right now).

It was like C++ - Why u no write me program.

Here's one for the Java haters (like me)

no diggy-diggies here, but i just hate it when a 'youngster' calls themself a programmer. if you just called yourself a C++ hobbyist, and left the word 'programmer' out, i would be more... "Oh, i wonder if this person wants any help?"

and... C-Sharp - lol, don't get me started - that is for VB programmers who want to get better, but CBA to learn proper ANSI-C - lol

.NET is flawed and bugged to hell (and back again)

if people want to learn C++, stick to Borland or Watcom

Actually c# (and .crap in general) is what pays me a wage so I don't mind so much that it's basically just VB with a different syntax. I agree .net is a buggy POS for the most part

I've always just done what the client needed. When I ran my own consultancy years back, I found myself doing a lot of COBOL and PL1 - really, really old stuff. But it was appropriate to the job and fairly easy. I landed a fairly lucrative contract doing Delphi once...I'd never touched it before but it was basically VB with a few bits changed around.

At the end of the day it's true to say a lot of stuff is a bit crap, but unfortunately c# and asp.net are a "standard" and in demand.

I actually started with Borland c++ years ago, but the jobs were asking for something else at the time...

It's all fluffed up bollox at the end of the day though...ever more complicated ways of doing fairly straight-forward things lol. I do however still quite like programming, though I don't do that much these days.

Scoob.

I like C#. XNA is awesome. I like to be able to use C++ though. I like the syntax better. Python is good. I'm liking it so far.

BTW, S_I_N, you need some help. I need help too. It's not my parent's money, it's the money I earn (scraching the itch is hard b/c of that). I think I may end up "getting a job" as in tech support. I suspect that my only caller will be my dad. The good news (for my dad) is my wages are minimal ($5 an hour, versus NCIX's $50 / hr for working on PCs). I suspect that the laptop I'm using needs to be re-TIMed and the CPU fan needs to be cleaned (an hour or 3)

I use GNU C. I'm a hobbyist b/c I don't get paid for it. I do know some things about C++. I stepped away from C# because of the .NET Framework. I HATE it. I like to use DirectX in an environment that I create (rather than f**king C#'s XNA - it's a starting point, nothing else). I prefer it b/c it does what I want. I'm not offended in anyway though. No probs there. I started when I was 12 or 13 (C# -> C++ when I was 13 or 14). I found C++ easier b/c I find the syntax not revolting. Don't get me started on Java. It's crap.

Edit: not offended in any way.

I get to do a rebuild in a few days (probably Wed or Thursday), as my new PSU should be delivered. I finally get to use a desktop again
rock.gif
...and Fold on something that doesn't look like Wile E Coyote was behind it. I'll probably start by putting an IDE on it like Code Blocks (C/C++/whatever else) and IDLE (for Python - it's a class I'm taking at school - boring as hell right now, but we start functions on Monday). I am pretty much a C++ hobbyist (programmer is more of a job title. I guess that's how dugdiamond sees it, but a programmer is what wikipedia calls anyone who writes code, so IDK.) Either way, I know how to code pretty well (forgot a bunch of things, mostly idioms).

Lol so just because i can the very basics of HTML does that mean i am a programer?

I have the itch to build again, mainly because I don't want to have my main expensive rig stolen while at uni. I even picked out parts and everything.

LOL. Damn multi quote won't work for me

Here's Lollipop's post

Oh bugger, its 2:30 in the morning AGAIN, and I've got the itch once more. Just wanna build something shiny and new. My heads tickin' so loud I just can't sleep..... ZZZZzzzz.

I get the itch 2-3 times a week but never act on it . sometimes buid random crappy pc's for lols outof my spares but my main rig has been that for 2 years now and no issues . Long live hellfire.... i lie... BSD a few times this week . oh well payout from crash soon i7 time

I have always wondered what I'd do if I had the $$$$$ like say a lotto win
biggrin.gif
be no time to scratch as I'd be building even in my sleep

Definitely. But I'm not sure I'd build a supercomputer sr-2 and the likes - maybe I would.

When people ask me:"What would you do if you won x amount of money?" I would always reply, buy a new bed, big TV and spend the rest on computer parts

or sr3 lines??? havent really looked at it yet but yeah a dual cpu rig would be sweet

yeah I deffo buy the creature comforts as well. but my builds would become insanely more complex than it is now as I would also buy the proper gear to mod stuff correctly as well as build a paint booth for painting

At least once an hour!

I convinced myself I needed a HTPC even though my TV is about 2 meters away from my main rig.

Then I convinced myself I needed a server to sit between the two.

My 600T build lasted 3 months, my 800d build looks like its being replaced/rebuilt using Sandy-E.

Looks like I'm never moving out of my parents house.
