How long can a hdmi cable be?????

hey ppl,gna be moving into a appt sooon but there is no room for my comp in the living room(without it lookin outa place) but there is a 32'' full HD tv beauty and it would be awsome to play games on 1920*1080,so ime just wondering how long can a HDMI cable be without losing any picture quality.

i understand that its a digital connection so its 1s n 0s,but how long before some of them get lost,and if there is a type of cable i can get that say have oxygenfree cables or whatever they are plus if you have/use any you can reccomend.

Facts aside, I'm using 5m HDMI 1.3 cables without problems for both SkyHD and PC. Cheap to from some Amazon place.

Once you get your cable, don't sit there worrying if the picture produced is "clear", or the cable is reducing quality.

As i understand it, a digital signal cannot be degraded to a worse quality, it's either full or no signal. So as long as there are no dropouts on the cable, it's working, and producing just as good an image as the most expensive cable in the world would.

Agreed. The only benefits I see in well made expensive cables is if u know for a fact that u need to run the cable somewhere u know u'll get interference. Here's where u'll bank on the shielding quality. Domestically, I would find this very rare.

cool,just found a HDMI to DVI lead and it 2m and its actualy quite long i may have underestimated 1metre,so 5m may be long enough oe deffo 10m,thanks guys ile just got a midrange one

If it's over 5metres, you might be wise to buy a powered one.

If under 5metres, one of the bluejeans cables or something like a Mark Grant cable would do very nicely. In fact, Mark does a 10 metre HDMI cable that a lot of people have recommended

People have found issues with cheap cables over 5 metres, just saving you hassle.

I've had issues with 2 metre ones frankly, so I always buy quality now.

Just seen you can buy a HDMI extender that runs over Cat5e/6. It's about £30, and would probably work out a LOT cheaper than buying a really long HDMI cable if you need one.

Has been reviewed many times and it always comes back that over short distance do not buy expensive. I heard there isn't really data loss anymore with digital leads unlike scart and such. If you have an expensive £2000 TV why slack on something like a lead?
