Hello OC3D!

I am new to both water cooling and overclocking. I have built many PC's in the past but never really had the money to get what I really wanted. Which is of course a computer I can overclock the crap out of for fun and video games. Sense I have been in Afghanistan sense November of 2009 I have had plenty of time to not spend money and came across these forums when I was researching water cooling and how not to utterly destroy my computer from being a complete noob.

This is what I plan on building when I get back (which would be Nov 1st) :

Case: Custom Made from pexiglass

Motherboard: Asus Crosshair IV Formula 890FX

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T

Memory: 4GBx2 DDR3 2000 Corsair XMS

GPU: Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 5870 (X2)

SSD: OCZ Revo 120GB

HDD: TBD

I am a AMD/ATI fan as well as a Asus fan for motherboards and finally a Corsair XMS fan for memory.

Diablo was nice enough to baby step me through the water cooling process so I can throw that out here as well:

CPU Loop:

Pump: Laing DDC-Pump 12V DDC-1Plus (MCP 355)

CPU Block: EK-Supreme HF - Full Nickel

Radiator: EK-CoolStream RAD XT (360) (Cooled by 3 NB Blacksilent XL2 rev.3 120mm)

Reservoir: XSPC Bay Reservoir 5.25

Top: XSPC Premium Laing DDC Clear Acrylic Top

Tubing: PrimoFlex Pro LRT UV Green Tubing -1/2in. ID X 3/4in. OD

Coolant: PrimoChill ICE Non-Conductive Liquid Cooling Fluid (clear)

GPU Loop:

Pump: Laing DDC-Pump 12V DDC-1Plus (MCP 355)

GPU Block: EK-FC5870 V2 Nickel (X2)

Radiator: EK-CoolStream RAD XT (360) (Cooled by 3 NB Blacksilent XL2 rev.3 120mm)

Reservoir: XSPC Bay Reservoir 5.25

Top: XSPC Premium Laing DDC Clear Acrylic Top

Tubing: PrimoFlex Pro LRT UV Green Tubing -1/2in. ID X 3/4in. OD

Coolant: PrimoChill ICE Non-Conductive Liquid Cooling Fluid (clear

Only difference being that they have different blocks obviously. I plan on taking a current plexiglass case I have and using it plus a few more inches (by making a new one myself of course) to make room for both radiators (one on top and one on the side at the bottom). Hopefully it turns out how I want it to.

Again hello OC3D

hello and welcome to the forums,i assume you are in afghan on active service? its always good to have another squadie hear.what are you in cos 12 months active is a long time unless you have had short turn arounds.

anyway plexiglass cases are not good mate they look tacky and are not very good a heat managment,i would suggest something better if you had a budget, the asus 5870 v2 is a very good GPU and it can reach the vapour x's clocks, and a samsung f4 1tb will be fine for storage mate

water cooling i have no idea so ile leave that

I am Active Army in the 82nd Sustainment Brigade. I am a 25Q which is a multi-channel system operator/maintainer but I actually just do networking and specialize in switching and routing.

I used the same pexiglass case for my last PC and it was completely air cooled with no problem (all stock coolers). As long as you don't get finger prints all over it and your careful it looks pretty nice or I think so anyway. We will see how it turns out. It's a clear case and both my loops are going to be contained completely inside it. I'll post pics when I'm done and see what everyone thinks. If it turns out bad I'll just get a new case and have some more fun

Go with the MSI fusion dude. It's much cheaper and IIRC overclocks even better than the CHIV.

It's not as pretty but you do get Lucid on the trade, so yeah, depends on if money is an object

I just finished reading a whole review on the MSI fusion and it seems great if you want to mix and match random ATI and NVIDIA cards but I have no intention of doing that or waiting for a company to come out with updates. Not to mention there are a few cards that are not supported at all (dual GPU cards). It looks like a great piece of technology but I don't think it exactly fits my needs.
