HELP!!

Oh shoot! I'm trembling!!

I had overclocked my graphics card today and it just took it and took and has been working fine with a little extra voltage. I turn my system off, go for a shower, come back, turn it on and within 10 seconds of bootup bam artefacts everywhere!

I'm typing this is safe mode as even after uninstalling afterburner the problem is still there. Someone please help! What do I do now?

The obvious answer would be send the card back and get it palmed off ignorantly on RMA and get a new one but what if I haven't killed the card? What if it is the drivers? How do I get this fixed?

Hmm, I'd have thought just changing the settings back in afterburner would have solved it. Have you tried un-installing the drivers and re-installing them? That would restore any settings that might have been saved I imagine.

I did try getting into afterburner but the artefacts ate up the screen before I had a chance to do anything more than uncheck the box to launch on startup.

I updated to catalyst 11.4 today. If i uninstall 11.4 then reinstall it it's not going to leave me with a black screen is it? :S

I can't imagine why it would. The graphics card should still output an image, though it will be at an ungodly resolution until you re-install the new ones. You could always try a simple reseating of the graphics card. Windows normally reads it as a change of hardware and reinstalls new drivers.

This is what I'm about to do:

ATI> Support> 11-4> Setup. Is the option in there again the same as when you install to uninstall? Then do I delete 11.4 and download it again or do I leave it on the hard disk and reinstall from there?

Erm, I'm not sure to be honest mate. If it gives you the option to uninstall or overwrite them in the installer application then that's a good thing and I'd recommend that. Traditionally, you'd find the gpu under device manager and remove the drivers there before rebooting and downloading and installing the new ones.

Right I'll look for an option in catalyst setup first and then reboot. The worst that can happen is I have to use my 5770 for a while

P.S. Thank you for your help

sounds like your card is fried matey if your getting artifacts.

Mate of mine in spain had the same with his 8800,and i've had it it previously after trying to oc an old 7300gt.

Try drivers etc,but i wouldn't hold out on any hopes you may have,i'd just rma it like you say.

It's only been happening for a matter of minutes so hopefuly nothing has frazzled but ah well here goes nothing :/

I sincerely hope not, Fodr would really have had to over do it for that to happen from a simple overclock. And I'd imagine a BSOD would happen first.

Fingers crossed it's alright.

It was from stock 810Mhz/ 1250Mhz @1.112v to 840Mhz/ 1325Mhz @1.118v. It ran heaven fine and every single game I threw at it. Only artefacted when I started a new session after shut down. Anyway did what you said Runebeard and uninstalled the driver from device manager and windows update has done it's magic but need to reboot. Seems to either be running off 11.3 or is planning to install it.

Sweet. Let me know if it works

Stress test it, you don't want to think its running safe only for a couple of months down the road for it to die on you. If the gpu ram is buggered then your going to have to get it exchanged.

Nah, card is a gonner. It went into windows then did the usual artefact mayhem after about 20 seconds. *sigh* RMA time again.

Thank you gentlemen for all your assistance but sadly 0.006v have destroyed an overclock edition card

At least this time round I can just use a different graphics card unlike with the power supply RMA
