Help with SSD

Myself and a friend both bought ssd drives I bought a Mushkin he bought an OCZ and one month later they are both dead. I am looking for peoples opinions on the reliability of ssd. Was it just unlucky what happened or should we steer clear of ssd right now.

Never heard of anything like this before, I'm running 3 SSDs in my home and none of them has ever shown any sign of unreliability :S
 
It's a very strange coincidence indeed that both your drive and your friends drive died at approximately the same time. I've been running my SSD for about 10 months now, with no issues at all (touch wood). You could always go for the crucial M4 or the more expensive Intel drives as they are known for their reliability.
 
I've been running my Mushkin Chronos 120gb SSD for 4 months now and not a single problem. They may have been part of a bad batch or something. I've read people have issues with both brands but also some have had no problems either so i'm sort of puzzled too.
As Yassar mentioned above, the Crucial M4 is a solid drive, great in performance and reliability, its also priced well atm with SSD prices tumbling. Same goes the intel SSD's, they are top noth drives as well.

looks like we were both unlucky then but i think i will ask for a different drive just in case what seems to be the most recommended one out there? the intel look pricey

Mushkin chronos or the M4 are the best bang for buck and reliable too. Personally I went for the Chronos.

Make sure to update the firmware on the SSD immediately after the OS install (this is available off the manufacturer's websites) just incase is messes up data, which it usually doesn't.

OCZ had a really bad reputation (and return rate) with the vertex and agility 2s. I haven't seen data for the Agility 3s yet but I know of several people on these forums who have had issues with the Agility 3 too (which I'm guessing you've got).
 
I had the Mushkin chronos for 30 glorious days before it died. i was looking at the m4 but write speeds seem low is that a problem? i noticed ttl using a few of the kingston ssd are they ok

how do you guys put your pc info on the posts? i like this forum

Also, the VAST majority of the time your drives are spent being read from, not writing. Read speed, in my opinion, is far more important. You're much more likely to be let down by the speed of, say, your internet connection or the bandwidth which a site allocates you than you are to saturate the write speed of the Crucial drives.
 
Ah you seem to have been very unlucky!

There's corsair SSDs too.

To edit your signature click on your name and then "user CP" (control panel).
 
This is strange, however i have had the same happen i had 2x 100gb Vertex 2 in raid 0 both failed at the same time one is totally dead the other will not hold a windows or linux partition table no matter what i do (works fine on mac tho). I think you where just unlucky and i think i was too. the replacements for the vertex 2s the vertex 3s have been running solid as a rock for months.

can you RMA them ?

Did you format the drives after the first one died?
 
I am just doing the rma with Aria and deciding what to have for the new drive so far the M4 looks good by what this forum says ... so much help here its great
 
I would like to buy the intel ssd but the price is a little high for me right now £209 for a 180gb from aria so maybe the M4 will have to do for now
 
I have no idea. I know that OCZ is an unreliable brand and I've heard some bad stories about mushkin too. I would always buy an Crucial, Samsung, Intel or Corsair unit.
