Should I use?

1.)OPTY 170

or

2.)OPTY 175

or

3.)64 x 2 3800+

or

4.)64 x 2 4400+

I'll be using this cpu cooler:

Hi grandgotti

It's a bit of a pity that you have your AMD board already, because Intel Core 2 architecture is where it's at atm. But in answer to your question you'll see some serious price drops in the Opteron processors (in the vicinity of up to 50%) very shortly, making them extremely attractive. The 170 or 175 will do you nicely imo, although the X2's are great processors too.

Definitely go for the Opty 170. From what I have been told they are REALLY cheap right now and will not last long at this price. I think i was told something like $170, which is dirt cheap for such a nice proccy.

You could go for the cheaper e4300 or e6300 and overclock the nuts off it. They respond well to overclocking.

Edit: @ FragTek - $170 that's an insane price. Deffo get it if you can't afford the C2D's

LOL...................Only problem tho.I no not 1 cent about overclocking.Remember,I said in my intro that my friend does all my technical stuff to my PC!

WOW! Those are some insane prices... That 170 is almost too good to pass up at that price. Same with the 175/180, but the price ratio on the 170 makes it the best option IMO.

I had two 180's in my AMD days and man were those awesome processors, they clocked like champs!

So,when I get my new cpu.Who's going to teach me to oc it?I know notta on that subject ay all.Never even heard of overclocking until I started PC gaming last year in March.

Well u have come to thr right place to learn about ocing! im sure we will be able to help u get the best bang for your buck :D

Edit: OMG you can buy a Opteron 175 in America for the same price as a Opteron 165 over here in the UK! I may have to get on the phone to my brother :P

Question:How can I find-out if my cpu in my other PC is still worth keeping? The cooler has been making that pc overheat and shut down constantly.

But,how can I see if keeping the CPU is worth doing?It's a AMD 64 x 2 3800+

Which motherboard are you going to be using mate? I noticed the one in your sig says it's just temporary.

If you are planning a mobo upgrade let us know so we can steer you in the direction of a good clocking board.
