Help me choose components

is conroe all its hyped up to be? for games i mean...coz there has been a lot of controversy on how the amd system was tested?

This was a long long time ago when they did the AMD/Intel rig test and it was completely rigged up the arse.

Independent tests show that Conroe is better in every department than an equivelant A64 except for memory bandwidth (i think...). But, the memory bandwidth doesn't do much for ya if the cpu can't find a good way to utilize it like the Core Duo can.

I think the X2 3800 should be a good choise, especially if you can get the one with the "Toledo" core and not the "Manchester" Core...I've heard it overclocks much better than the "Manchester". But how high your X2 3800 will overclock really depends on how lucky you are, as my Manchester X2 3800+ can barely reach 2.5GHz (250x10) from 200x10 (2GHz) at stock, and that's with a Vcore of at least 1.5V (to gain stability).

Who knows...maybe my mobo/RAM are limiting me...

Anyway, I'm pretty satisifed with my current "mild" overclock of 2.4GHz (240x10), though I've heard some people reaching 2.8GHz or even...2.9GHz with their X2 3800+ on AIR!!!

Yep there are some beastly overclocks out there on X2 3800's. I unfortunately like you zachig have the same problem with my 3800+.

Yeah, that's too bad, but honestly, like I've already said, I'm really satisifed with my 2.4GHz (240x10)...

Conroe all the way matey, they destroy any AMD rig on the current market and use the very latest technology. Just a shame that the motherboards are so expensive.

are there any benchmarks atm which have been independantly tested by companies such as this that are not biased in any way?
