just got this board and put in my new q6600 and am having some serious problems with it.When I turn it on nothing happens for about 3 mins and then the splash screen comes up so i press del to enter setup and it just hangs and does nothing....i know it may need the bios updating but surely i should be able to access the bios? any ideas?

mobo: p5n32-e sli plus

cpu: q6600

ram: OCZ platinum pc-6400

gfx: xfx 8800gt

More than likly needs a bios update to deal with the quad.

Maybe pick up one of them stupidly cheap conroe-ls to test?

bloody thing is supposed to be quad ready!!so you are saying i may need to throw more money away just to get this one started, sounds just like my luck!cant believe i will have to buy a another cpu to use for 5 mins!

(anyone got a cheap cpu going?)

They're like £15-20 it's not like your buying the earth :p

Its always useful to have spare parts anyway.

Before you spend though, have your tried stripping down to bare essentials? One stick of ram (that you know boots at default voltage), the CPU, PSU and GPU?

What PSU are you using? Although you have 8 phase power so there shouldn't be a problem there. Enless your using only a 4 pin on the 8 pin?

the mem is brand new so dont know if it boots anyway,88gt is from my old amd rig

bugger just realised i am only using the 4 pin would that make the difference?i thought you could use either?

4pin is fine. like ham said it is probably the mobo not supplying enought v's to the ram. 1 stick, bios, up the v's, shutdown, both sticks in... Off you go.

Try that. If not, like ham said buy a cheap a$$ cpu and update the bios

have just tried the 8 pin and changed the battery for one from my old dfi and it got into bios for a few seconds then stopped.......I am only using 1 stick of mem till i can sort out the settings.this is annoying if i have to get another cpu to use for 5 mins just to get my quad going.

would any old 775 cpu do the job just to get it started till i sort out the bios?
