Urgent help! PC not starting

Hey guys,

So I went to power up my PC today, only to realize it doesn't work.

I press the power button on my case, nothing happens. The leds on the ASUS X99 Strix just keeps fading in and out like they have since I first installed the motherboard (haven't changed it).

I tried plugging the Power switch in from my H440 to see if the Define S's power button may have decided to go - No change.

I've tried turning off the PSU and on - Nothing.

Turning off the PSU and unplug the power cord. Wait a few seconds, plug back in, switch the PSU back on and still nothing.

I've never experienced anything like this before, so I'm all down now. What to do :(

All I did yesterday was shutting it down like normal, windows menu, shut down and then left it and now it won't boot.

Help please! :(

Specs in case:

i7 5820K
ASUS X99 Strix
64GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2800MHz (running at 2133MHz tough)
EVGA 980Ti
Samsung 950 Pro 512GB M.2 SSD
Corsair HX750i
Fractal Design Define S

Regards,
Chrazey

Use the test on your power supply first and see if the fan spins if it don't then it's possibly the power supply thats gone
Also re check ALL power leads inside and outside the PC as it's easy to bump one whilst cleaning or with your foot and it may look like it's in when it's not (I've done this myself!)
start there first anyway

Do fans spin up?

No, nothing works except for the LEDs on the X99 Strix motherboard, that fades in and out.

Did that, the fan spin up when holding the "Fan test" button it and stops spinning when releasing it.

I've also tried this: https://www.pugetsystems.com/help/troubleshooter.php?id=16

I've tried reseating both GPU and RAM.

Also tried with 3 different kinds of RAM. And with 2 different GPUs as well.

Unplug everything from the motherboard besides power, power button, cpu/cooler, ram and fans. Do they spin up then?

Nope and might should've mentioned that my fans are connected to the Corsair Commander Mini and not directly to the motherboard.

Still nothing. I'm starting to think that the motherboard may be it.
But then if it were dead, wouldn't the LEDs also not work then?

The motherboard could be bust, do you run a surge protector?

Check everything thing connected to it is fully seated.

No I don't, why?... But you do know the LED effects which the X99 Strix has? Shouldn't those not work if the motherboard would be dead?.

Also, I haven't really done anything to get near what a surge protector does. We haven't even had any thunder here for a long time :p

the board could die with the leds still showing do you get any numbers in the post checker oh and also does the board have dual bios as it may be the bios thats gone so see if you can swap it

Post number thingy doesn't even work, as nothing powers on.

It clearly has power from the PSU, since the LEDs are showing. But nothing powers up when pressing the power button. Not even the power button on the motherboard.

You dont need thunder/lightning to experience a power surge through your socket.

If you have any local store you could ask them to test your board on their test bench or something like that?

Oooh damn dude this sucks to read, like the guys have already stated get your board checked out.

Have you tried the paper clip method on the PSU?

Cleared CMOS? One stick of ram at a time? Unplugging all drives?

Good luck. Hopefully the mobo is ok.

sure seems like the board is dead

Cheers guys, hopefully it is the motherboard. Just got a new one, so fingers crossed once I get home.

Tried 2 different PSUs, 3 different sets of RAM kits, 2 different GPUs, disconnected all pheriperals, ONLY having the power plugged in. Yet nothing.

Even trying the power button on the motherboard itself didn't work :(

And I only have an M.2 SSD in the motherboard, nothing else.
