Help choosing a new GPU

Hello, everyone

I am currently looking to buy a new graphics card, i dont mind either nvidia or ati/amd

I have sort of narrowed it down to either the ati 5870

or the gtx 560ti

I have read a lot of reviews/benchmarks and a lot of the time the 5870 comes out on top, also with it being the cheaper card its very tempting to just go and get that =]

Any other opinions are much appreciated

Thanks Chris

5870 is between 560Ti and 570Ti performance. Get the 5870

Hmmm yes it seems like the 5870 is the way to go at this moment in time, being its so cheep as well, whats the ati 6*** series equivalent to the 5870?

Thanks Chris

5870 is the better card however most games optimise for nvidia cards meaning the 560 ti would have the same performance or slightly might be better. The 560 ti also easily overclocks.

Meh, i'm going to say the 560ti as well I have gone off AMD cards they are louder and hotter. Personally i'd get the Twin Frozer III 560ti.

Just mt two cents anyway.

it all depends, are you looking for DX11 performance or DX10? Yes the 5870 does DX11 but chances are the 560ti destroys the 5870 in DX11 performance.

Thanks for your input =]

Im looking for DX11 performance, However i have looked at my situation as a whole and i will probably end up getting the 5870 because im 17 and im still in college getting EMA which as you probably know stops soon

(I could even get a second one down the line if i wanted to)

It doesn't. Most modern cards are consistant in comparison regardless of scenario

A while back when i had my 5870 i later bought a GTX460 for my brothers birthday. and in ALL DX11 tests that we ran (unigine, Metro, and later when 3D11 came out) the 460 beat my 5870. i would imagine that the 560ti is an improvement over the 460.

Same res? Same system? Did you just replace the card in the same rig because that's the only fair way to test.

I could easily get a GTS450 @360x240 to outperform a GTX570 @15360x1600

exact same system, i just swapped out the card. all the settings were exactly the same. here is the the 460 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125333

I should be getting two 5870s today, they were the same price as the 6970 I was going for origionally. 6970 only gets about 35fps in Crysis, the 5870 crossfire gets 45-60fps. 5870 crossfire also beats 6970 in Metro 2033, which is DX11. I don't see why these results should vary across apps using the same DX but okay I take your word for it

well of course your 5870 xfire is going to beat one 6970 in DX11, but the 6970 with easily rip apart one 5870 in a DX11 test. the 6xxx series cards as well as the gtx 4xx and 5xx series do far batter in DX11 than the 5xxx series cards did. a single 580 gets close to beating a stock 5970 in DX11!

I'm not on about raw performance, I'm talking about price to performance value. TWO 5870s are same price as ONE 6970
