heat sink positions on graphics cards

on all graphics cards ive seen the heat sink and fans are always on the bottom, now this does confuse me because heat rises dosent it and if the heat sink is on the bottom pulling heat out then if its facing down would the fan blow the hot hair out then it would just rise and hit the GPU again causing its temp to rise lol, what is the logic in that :o

Your theory is correct... however... The best place to position a fan is right above the heatsink blowing towards the chip being cooled. Gigabyte makes a loser ass 6800 with a top mounted heat-pipe heatsink that doesn't work for goat nuts.

I guess when companies start building vid cards right side up they'll have it all sorted out ;) lol
