DVD Read Problem

This problem is really bugging me now, im unable to recognise anything using my sata DVD Drive. The Facts...

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-216D ATA Device

Attached by Sata to Asus P5Q Motherboard

Shows Up correctly in Bios, and Device Manager

Uptodate Firmware on DVD Drive

Latest P5Q Bios (ver 2002)

OS is Vista x64

HDD drives work fine in all Sata ports on MB

I Have also tryed another Sata Dvd drive with the same effect, shows up in bios and windows, but unable to recognise any disks, just ejects and asks to insert a CD.

EDIT: Im also unable to boot from any disks...

Any ideas??? Thanks Dave

Not sure if this is much help. Had the same problem a few months back It was also a Pioneer DvD/CD Read/Writer. Would not play any DvD's and would cause the comp to freeze.

It worked when I changed it but you are saying that even using a different one you get the same problems?

Yes the chipset drivers are upto date, im unable to boot from the windows dvd, so I dont think it is a driver problem.

Im going to RMA both of these drives and see how I get on after that, not sure what ill do if they dont work

Cheers for the replys...
