Have I done something wrong?

Or did I just straight ahead fuck up with the thermal paste..
I've got a I5 2500K @4.4Ghz with 1.366V. 105.00 x 42.0
The cooler is Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
I'm running Prime95 with the blend-in test I think.
In the first 1 minute my heats went up to 70. (From Core 1-4 = 63, 71, 70, 70)
I've been running it for 4 minutes now and those are the max temperatures so far. At this exact moment 60-67-67-65.
I pretty much got a feeling that this isn't normal, so many times people say like "Yeah I've got the Hyper 212 Evo, 6Ghz clocks, ran it for 24 years and max temperatures were 60".

When installing the cooler, I accidentally faced it the wrong way, as it was pushing air upwards. I wanted it to push it to the back. I didn't quite pay attention when installing it so accidentally did it wrong. Well I took it off, turned it and put it on.
The problem here is that the thermal paste messed up a little. There was some around the processor etc. so I cleaned atleast most of it off with a paper, and put the cooler on.

After 9 minutes 60-69-67-64 Celcius. This can't be a good amount?
I'm not going to take it off to re-apply the thermal paste since it's going to take way too long, and I haven't got thermal paste..

I thought about maybe upping the clocks a bit more, but since it's getting that hot already I might not. It gets up to 70 rarely on some cpu-heavy games too.

But the question shortly : Is this bad performance from the cooler? Did I really screw up the thermal paste that badly?

strip the thing. it doesnt matter how long it takes if its going to save you flowing the chip. the paste has probably bunched up in certain areas leaving patches with poor to zero contact for heat transfer. unless you are going for ic diamond or thermal liquids then the price can ramp up but most good ones can be had for a fiver. and on your oc why not leave the base clock at 100 and fart about with the multiplier and oc that way. its much easier and i believe the sb ib prefer it that way

You said you cleaned all of the thermal paste off with a piece of paper and then put the cooler back on? That is your problem right there. You need to get some thermal paste asap and put a pea sized dot in the middle and let the cooler take care of the spreading.

It took me around 6 hours to install the thing. That's how good I am. not wasting any more hours to replace it :p
Also. I've tried 100 x 44 but I think it wasn't stable anymore. I found that 105 x 42 is a good combination.
Tried 110 x 42 too but didn't even start up.

And it's still going pretty good. After 25 minutes of testing it went up to 73c at most. That's good enough for me. In gaming it very rarely goes up to 70.

The temps are not bad, but they could be better. If you don't want to re-apply thermal paste, then there's very little you could do to improve the temperatures.

That's what I was looking for! I wanted to know if it's very bad with the cooler or still-quite-okay temps. I really wanna overclock this thing more. Should I try 105 x 44, or 100 x 46 or what do you recommend? Also what would be the best volts for that amount? 1,366 atm.

Id just leave it at 4.4 for now mate. the 212 is good but itll start to struggle soon. plus i doubt youll see a difference between 4.4 and 4.6 :)

Well true :p But I thought about maybe trying 4.7 - 4.8, but well whatever. I've been lately playing Minecraft with some crazy settings with Optifine, so any extra fps boost would be appreciated.
Also Savage, I checked thru my older posts where I seemed to have talked about the same topic, and you had replied to that too. Damn you :D

Half an hour more with the maxinum heat and power consumption setting. Heats didn't go any higher that that. I'm satisfied with it :p

Well what fps do you get at the moment? i cant see minecraft struggling with a 2500k and 2 560 ti's 0.0 . I'm everywhere you see ;D

lol
also i think 70°C with that cooler is normal at 4.4ghz. you aren't really supposed to go any higher with that.

60 - 100 :D It's capped at 100.
Reason for that is 1080p resolution, everything at fancy, far view distance, 4x Mipmap, 16x Anisotropic Filtering, 12x Antialiasing.
Would run a million fps without all that AA :D It eats my second GPU to 99%, and eats all the memory from both gpu's

Lol.. "Yeah I've got the Hyper 212 Evo, 6Ghz clocks, ran it for 24 years and max temperatures were 60"
Read my own sentence, laughed out loud. I'm just too funny :)
