H100i V2 or H60?

Hey guys,

Probably a dumb question to ask you all, specially coming from me... But do you think an H60 will be enough for an 6700K? Even if you'd try to overclock it to 4.5-5.0 GHz (IF possible)? Or do I "need" an H100i V2?...

As I do like the tubes on the H100i V2 quite alot, but I do also already have an H60 spare... So I wanted to hear what you guys think.

For that big of an OC you would yield much better results from a H100i. It depends on voltage, but you'd need to sacrifice fan speed for noise without a doubt. You could probably get away with it to a certain point, but I wouldn't expect anything over 1.2v to do well on a H60. I don't have any concrete data on that, but just an educated guess.

But for a stock 4.0GHz then on an H60? Do you think it would be fine for that?...

What if I'd go for a short one, like 4.2-4.5GHz?...

How big of an increase it really when you go up 100MHz?...

It's impossible for us to tell, every chip is different. If you'd like to play around with some overclocking I'd get the H100i as it will perform much better and (at least where I live) the H60 is also rather expensive so there's no point saving that little bit of money.

Okay, that's true... Well I already have an H60 lying around, hence me asking regarding them.

I would say give the H60 a chance before you buy the H100i v2. From what I can gather the H100i v2 isn't exactly offering great performance, but that might just have been that one review which got bad results.

5GHz isnt possible unless youve got a 1 in 100,000 CPU

The IHS will get overloaded if you put too much volts through it no matter what cooler you have.

If you have room and want to OC then the H100 will be the better choice to be able to cool more volts.

Id say the H60 is a stock cooler and even then Id want manual volts and even an undervolt.

Yeah 5+ GHz is pretty crazy. Even with a custom water loop it will be challenged, depending on the parts used of course.

Edit: I'm actually considering the H115i since it's a more quiet pump it seems, and a much better surface area.

Exactly, my 8350 couldn't hit 5GHz unless I pumped more than 1.525 volts to it which of course even with a beast custom loop would be dificult to keep under control.

You really need to have an excellent chip mate in order to go for a clock like that
